here on capitol hill hill, stephanie ramir,z, wusa 9. >>> charlotte is also under a blanket of snow. diane joins us with more from charlotte. >> reporter: roads around charlotte are a mixed bag. some of the interstates looking clear, other streets, especially the back row, neighborhood streets looking like a sheet of ice. just to give you an idea, this is what any of the snowy roads look like. it is not actually snow. it's a sheet of ice. still very slippery. if you look behind me, the roads around bank of america stadium are especially clear. you know they have a big game here sunday against the arizona cardinals, the nfc championship. so a lot of the roads are going to be much clearer tomorrow afternoon than they are right now. we took a look around uptown and some of those main streets again in uptown looking good. other ones, it's a mixed bag. they are still snowy and icy on many of the local streets. we saw the plows out very early, plowing and salting. so they want to make sure anyone coming in that are for the induction ceremony today or for the big game against the arizona cardinals tomorrow will be in go

paulo sandoval joins us live from charlotte with more on the prep.he snow has melted, but does that mean that everything is ready and in place for the big game? >> reporter: you know, fred, that's a really good question. if you're driving to game, you shouldn't run into any issues. if you're walking, that's where the problem is. the sidewalks here in charlotte, a lot of them are covered with ice. in have scraped it from this parking lot for tailgating. city officials are reminding people to be very careful after they drive and park at some of the parking lots when they're walking to the stadium, only about three blocks from where we are, we almost took a tumble getting here. that's the big concern, but at this point mother nature is clearly cooperating. when you talk to some of the fans, including one in particular i talked to, there was a little bit of concern when that place took a beating on friday. take a listen. were you concerned about capps lg the game? >> definitely. my car got stuck yesterday so i got into an suv and drove all the way here.

from north carolina's governor that, sadly, three people have been killed so far in accidents on snow and ice-covered roads there in north carolina. nbc's gabe gutierrez joins us live now from charlotteh more. gabe, what can you tell us? >> reporter: hi there, craig. good morning. it's been an absolute mess throughout the morning. we saw snow, we saw freezing rain, we've seen sleet. thank flae thankfully, a small break right now, but the roads have had dangerous conditions all morning, plenty of accidents, and now a big concern is power outages. we've already had reports of several thousand already. charlotte is expected to get possibly about as much as a half inch or so of ice, and that could be very dangerous. back two years ago, an ice storm then paralyzed this city. bus service is closed, schools are closed here in charlotte, and as you can see from some drone video we shot earlier, it was just an absolute mess on the roadways this morning. now, another thing that's been canceled, later today there had been a pep rally scheduled for the carolina panthers. that, again, has been canceled. the panthers are set to play, of course, this sunday in the huge nfc championship game. the te
