shoun o'connor for the air force joins us from indianapolis. from denver, david is a cnn safety analyst author of "why planes crash." thank you all for joining us. sean, i want to start with you. as part of your career, you look at images of this and try to figure out how significant they may be. you have seen pictures of the images from the chinese satellite. what do you think it might be? any reason for hope? any differentiation in the images we saw earlier in the week? >> one of the interesting things you can notice when you look at the images we saw earlier in the week released by australia, they gave one of the dimensions for the larger object as 24 meters. this one, they are saying is about 22 meters wrong. there's a little margin for error there. if there's measuring difficulty, they might be the same object. they both looked relatively rectangular. this one was sighted 120 kilometers from the australian items. given the difference in times between when the images were required, that would imply an average surface speed of 2.5 kilometers

us in. how did it change? >> from friday it was looking like i-70 from indianapolis to new york city was the bull's eye. over the weekend it shifted 100 miles to the south. that's made a huge difference in who's getting the snow. we saw sleet in the dallas area yesterday. i mean, dallas, texas in march is usually a warm place. this storm just heading further south. we saw wintery weather in nashville last night, and all of kentucky is covered in snow and ice this morning. much of the snow is right over the top of washington, d.c., baltimore to philadelphia to atlantic city. new york city, you're probably much done. you've seen about an inch and that's it. the heavier snowbelt is through the mid-atlantic region. how much snow? 6 to 12 inches is in the pink going from kentucky through west virginia through d.c. d.c., you have an inch or less on the ground. it will snow hard from now until mid afternoon. even richmond, virginia, your average high this time of year should be mid 50s. you're going to get three to six inches of snow today. yesterday in richmond it was 71 and sunny. now you'll have three to si

us here. the west coast sent this storm across the country. >> blame it on them. >> get, like, one rainstorm every year. >> this is shifted from what we expected. >> it did shift. friday it was centered up towards indianapolisver the weekend it shifted south and really hit areas of tennessee, kentucky, arkansas, even dallas had a lot of sleet out of it. now this morning it's centered over virginia and washington, d.c. and it's amazing for martha it's 19 degrees during the week. it snows in march, but new york city has had a coating. four to eight in d.c. and richmond doesn't get many snowstorms in march. three to six inches, tonight you're going to be shoveling snow. talk about a crazy roller coaster. dallas, 2 degrees. wherever you had the sleet yesterday, it's still on the grounds, roads are still treacherous from that, and no end in sight, unfortunately. tonight we're down to 6 in philly, 9 in d.c. these are close to the all-time coldest temperatures we've ever seen in the month of march. unfortunately, one week from now, here's the weather pattern, chris. we have this huge dip in the jet stream. it allows the cold air -- we are cold in the eastern half of the country at least until the middle of march.
