also with us criminal defense attorney mark geragos, jeffrey toobin and dr. sanjay gupta. jeff, was this a verdict? >> seemed to be to me. i was skeptical of this case. given michael jackson's history of addiction, given all the possible involvements in his ill health, blaming conrad murray seemed unfair. but i thought the prosecution did an excellent job. they laid out a very straightforward case. and they showed that this was not just, you know, arguably bad medicine. this was really deep, deep incompetence. they didn't charge him with too much. they didn't charge him with murder. they charged him with a minor felony but still a felony and got the verdict they deserved. >> conrad murray was placed in handcuffs. i know there's a lot that you saw and heard that the fixed tv camera didn't capture. what struck you? >> well, if you're watching at home, you probably didn't see katherine jackson, michael jackson's mother, break down in tears as soon as that verdict was read. she was comforted by jermaine jackson and randy jackson. la toya jackson, michael jackson's sister, let

mark geragos with still with us, as is toure, martin bashir, john kelly, and jami floyd. mark, your initial thoughts? >> i expected if there was a verdict, it would be guilty. i thought the best the defense could hope for would be a hung jury. i think the suspense right now is whether or not judge pastor remands conrad murray into custody immediately or allows him to remain on bail until sentence. if he remands him, i think you can pretty much expect or bet that he's going to get a four-year state prison sentence, although there is all kinds of nuances to that given realignment in california. >> and specifically, just on the nitty-gritty, a recent california prison realignment bill basically says that he would have to serve this in county jail because of prison overcrowding in california. is that right? >> that's exactly right. as of october 1st, we have a sea change here in california. realignment means that this will be what is called a county jail felony, and the most he would do would be two years and it's really up to the sheriff to determine how much of that time he

geragos. >> but a attorney known to us who know trial attorneys across the country and very effective in a courtroomhat line referenced goes to the heart of the case. this is an involuntary manslaughter case, not a murder case. it's more complicated for the jury for that reason. there is no intent alleged by the prosecution and therefore any act by anyone including the victim himself can provide the defense. the reasonable doubt this jury needs to acquit. >> the prosecutor kept talking about the fact that he felt conrad murray was conducting a scientific experiment in a bedroom because there is not ann treatiologi theseiologist on the planet that would recommend this and leaving the room at the same time. was he effective? >> sure, the prosecution said the propofol should not be administered outside of a hospital setting. when he chose to do so, he should have been diligent and never leaving michael's side. even being diligent, he should have had life-saving equipment. that would be gross deviation from the care. >> the problem for the jury is can they conceive that mr. jackson did this to himself o

let's bring in michael jackson's former attorney, mark geragos to give us some insight into dr.. mark, after more than 20 days of testimony, tomorrow, as you know, the final stretch. what is the defense -- does the defense need to do? what are the key things the defense needs to say in the closing arguments? >> i think basically the defense is going to attack the causation and there's going to be a jury instruction that the judge will lead series of instructions, jurors are going to focus, i think, on the one that says that basically was there an intervening cause? i know that's a legal term. but that -- comes down to was dr. murray's negligence the direct cause for michael jackson's death. and the defense is go to say no, there was an intervening cause. that's why we heard the testimony from dr. white, this kind of supposition of the hypothetical of michael injecting himself and they are going to argue that if that is a reasonable possibility, then that raises reasonable doubt as to whether or not his conrad murray's negligence, gross negligence, caused the death. >> and becaus

trial lawyer mark geragos is no stranger to high-profile legal cases. he joins usith florida assistant state attorney who supervises broward county sex crimes unit. i'm not sure where to go in this, because it seem likes there are so many moving parts. what do you think, mark, is the next big moment in this case as we move forward? >> i think the next big moment is when they do a hearing and whether -- i don't think that's going to be sandusky first. i think it's going to be for the ex-president or thorstwhile president. i think the attorney general filed something saying they wanted to postpone that. i think once you have a hearing, you're going to see some of the fashions come out as opposed to right now appears to be rumors back and forth. part of the problem with a case like this is that everything starts to get reported, and the sourcing becomes a little bit suspect so you don't know how to separate out what is just rampant rumor with no foundation, you know, this idea there's just a lineup of victims or this idea that somehow he's pumping out kids to donors,
