gulf coast. so cnn's chad myers joins us with the forecast. it is changing every hour. >> it is. and the storm is getting deeper, which means the lower pressure and if winds are coming up and catching up to the pressure. 115 miles per hour at the 8:00 advisory just now. two airplanes are in it right now, so we have the most accurate deals we have had now for hours. these are the real numbers, the pressures are going down and it is a big storm heading to category 4 by later on today. so we'll move you ahead. here's what the radar is going to look like. it is going to approach the coast and by 9:00 or 10:00 it will be nothing you can do out there that's not going to be with wind at 60 miles per hour. we are going to see landfalling waterspouts and some tornadoes as well. an awful lot of storm surge flooding with this storm, but also i don't want you to take your eye off the ball in houston. i know this storm is east of you and the worst of the storm is always east of it, but you're still going to get north winds between 60 and 80 miles an hour. that's no joke, trees and power lines

us. we begin with tropical storm laura and the growing threat it could slam into the gulf coast as a category 3 hurricane in just about 48 hours. with millions of americans in its path. as we come on the air, the governor of texas is declaring a state of disaster and coasting cities there and in louisiana are telling people to get out now. the threat from laura comes at the same time heavy winds and torrential rains from another storm named marco are already slamming into the same region tonight. and while marco is weakening right now, forecasters say tropical storm laura, which has already killed more than a dozen people in haiti and the dominican republic, will only grow stronger and more dangerous. now that could make it the most powerful storm to hit the area since hurricanes katrina and rita landed one after the other 15 years ago. if that happens, it would up-end president trump's plans to speak at the republican national convention on thursday night. in charlotte a roll call vote and surprise appearance by the president will continue tonight. the trump campaign is hoping to use the wee

legacy of this storm not only one of the worst we have seen in the gulf coast but going to remain with us many days as we get into the weekend. flood advisories posted for the track, the trajectory of this storm moving towards the mississippi and ohio river valley where we could see upwards of 5 to 7 inches. 10 inches in isolated amounts. and i have seen reports of over 15 inches of rainfall. the storm surge incredible. that's why the national hurricane center said this was unsurvivable once it made landfall across louisiana. there is the projected rainfall as we go through friday and then the forecast wind gust once again still tropical storm force winds through portions of louisiana up into arkansas and then the tennessee and the ohio river valley need to watch this system. but the good news is now that it's lost its water source, it is beginning to weaken but the damage has been done. i have seen winds gusts in excess of 130 mile-per-hour for parts of louisiana. one they are going to remember certainly along the gulf coast. steve, ainsley, brian, back to you. steve: and, janice, it was
