on june 25, 1945 a dramatic session took place in the opera house which most know is right behind us here and in that session lord hell fax was presiding and he this is such a incredible occasion. in stead of sayic yea or nay we'll stand so 800 some ought delegates stood then staff and visitors 3 thousand on a very strong standing ovation that was unprecedented because it was unanimous the united nations charter would be in session and would be passed. the next day on june 26, 50 nations went to the war memorial building which is roilth behind us which is being restored and opened in september, the 50 people signed the charter and it was presided over by president truman who said the united nations charter is a solid structure of which we can build a better world. we are proud in san francisco that the united nations was created in san francisco and international city where we celebrate diversity. now, i would like to introduce the landlord of these buildings. have we paid our bill? okay, good. now, mayor lee, he was not here 70 years ago like some of the other people here and there, will

we talk about grace and this issue we really ought to be talking about the whole ball of wax here all of us. i find it interesting no one brought up the fact there were a million plus africans here who were suffering under the weight of enslavement and it wasn't really mentioned and no one talked about what they were going through. and they went through it for almost 400 years. i think that when we talk about grace, we have to extend grace to everybody. not just one way grace, but universal grace. what do i mean by that? that flag that stands out has stood as a thumb in the eye of those families in charleston who lost loved ones. we all know it. and the response that this body should give is a moment of grace to those families. not just grace to the confederate dead but grace to those who are suffering right now, who are still alive. the grace this body can extend to those families right now is to remove that flag, remove that flagpole to not delay this process, to do it as expeditious expeditiously as we possibly can, to make sure that that family, those families understand that this body
