ktvu's janine de la vega joining us live in east palo alto now to tell us more about the work that was just completed. janine? >> reporter: dave, people who i spoke to this morning who live near the creek here say they are relieved that some of this first phase of repairs isen to. this is a very -- repairs is done. now, they've put down mesh and concrete to prevent what happened last christmas. there was torrential rainfall and it caused major flooding in various neighborhoods in east palo alto and palo alto. the levee overflowed and fail and mud and debris came down and threatened pg&e's infrastructure. governor brown called a state of emergency so east palo alto could qualify for state funds. in the hirst phase of work, the slope of the creek has been shored up. workers used mesh and rock and installed a new concrete dike and that cost about $165,000. there are still some weak points where high water can seep through. repairs still need to be done on university avenue. you are looking at woodland avenue. they've actually just finished resurfacing this whole street. that's all part of
