us. melissa, good morning. you know, it's a very bold move for the governor of a state that's still recognizing both confederate memorial day and the birthday of jefferson davis, who was the first president of the confederacy as official state holidays. you can see around me it's a pretty quiet morning here outside the confederate memorial, outside the alabama state capitol. the white posts behind me are where those confederate flags once flew for about two decades here in the state of alabama. now, the governor did talk about his decision to take down those flags. he acknowledged part of it had to do with the kigzllings in charleston but more so to make sure this wasn't a distraction for our state, and for lawmakers to return for a special session. he went on to say he is the first governor to order the immediate takedown of these flags, even going as far as to call out the governors of south carolina and virginia saying that he actually did something about it. >> i just hope that people take it the way i mean
