clark, some groups have come forward and have shared concerns with the public about the use of methadone and other medication-assisted therapies. are their concerns warranted? i think whenever you have complications associated with a medical treatment, the concerns of advocacy groups and of citizens should be taken seriously. one of the things that we're trying to do is to make sure that practitioners are in the field because we believe that the majority of these adverse events are occurring amongst pain docs prescribing for pain, and we want to educate those docs about that. we also believe that a clinic system which has over 1,100 clinics, you may have practitioners who are not as knowledgeable about what it is that they should know. and consumer groups can help bring that to their attention so that we can redouble our efforts to make sure that all of our credited and certified programs are practicing the best medicine possible or providing the best treatment possible. this is healthcare; it is an art form; it does rely on science- and evidence-based practices. nevertheless, some misad

i would like to think the board of supervisors in the past to have worked with us to develop this kind of law, with discussions and deliberations that were very interesting and very fruitful, and they actually served as really a pulpit to help many other cities in the state of california at. the department of environment, and i just saw, even before we had a discussion, mayor newsom had already endorsed the law itself, so we appreciate his support, too. we expect blowback from the plastics industry and the grocer industry, the very same people that tried to oppose us four years ago, had run to sacramento to make sure that the municipalities do not try this again. now, and they are literally in support of the law that they opposed a for your years ago, hoping that it goes away. we look forward to be very, very, i think, robust debate. next, i am submitting an ordinance on street frontages. i was proud to be one of the sponsors of the market batavia plant later this year. -- market octavia plan this year. now, with this ordinance that we introducing, street frontage controls for the city

many of us know her from her other leadership work. i want to recognize the brett of activism -- breadth of activism that she has brought to city hall. when i first met her, she was a leader at the plaza hotel on sixth street, which was a significant battle that involve redevelopment. here in city hall, she has been active. this is the sixth street agenda of working to stabilize the conditions. she has been south of the market community working to engage communities within the soft market. this has been involved in the housing clinic. this is an award today. she rather what have been out fighting and taking on the united states congress to get transgendered equity rather than personal accolades. that is the kind of personal -- person and later she is. the supervisor thanks you for her years of service. we wish you continued success in your leadership to san francisco. that is a lot of meetings and a lot of time spent. those of us to do the day to day of this grind know what that means and know what people give up when they spend so many

when we talk with writers at the writers guild of america, west, they tell us that their agenda is to tell compelling stories. so we need to inspire them with real stories of real people, positive stories. for example, last year our sentinel for health award winner was private practice, the abby's alcoholism story. i don't know if you saw that one. but it was a wonderful portrayal of a professional woman. you know, she's an m.d.; she's very well respected in her field. she's an alcoholic and having a problem. and she actually goes into treatment, comes out, goes back to work, and eventually has a relapse. so this episode was about relapse. one thing we know about portrayals of alcoholism and drug addiction in television comes from our tv monitoring project. we did an analysis of shows...800 shows from...no, it's almost 1,000 shows from 2004 to 2006 and what we found was that 29 percent of these episodes portrayed drug use and 33 percent of them portrayed alcoholism. only 6 percent of those alcoholism storylines actually talked about alcohol abuse or alcohol as a problem. so one thing
