i started the process of usaid which i started here, we had our launching event in october, last year with rachel kite from sustainable energy for all and we are working right now in a few different geographies. our focus is mostly ont intersection of energy and environment so we are interesting in solving the problem of sustaining development in emerging economics and we work in india and china and active projects in myanmar and vietnam as well. and the challenge that we see here is that the center of gravity in today's world, energy and environment, is really shifting away from the industrialized countries to more of what the emerging economies. their populations are larger and most of the economy growth is now coming from these countries and as a result energy demand is growing. at the same time, over 1 billion people still don't have electricity at home and 3 billion people work with traditional firewood. so how do we solve these problems without in the process cooking the planet. that is the fundamental challenge that we face. and in doing this work, we are very grateful for all
