i'm here at usgs. the reporting and other aftershock, in plumas county where the epicenter is reported. nowhere as large as severe at the 5.7. in this age of video cameras, you get a pretty good sense of what that shaking and rumbling was like last night. this is around the 8:00 to 9:00 hour. grocery store in greenville, that's the town where the epicenter is located. put this video up on its facebook page. it shows items falling from the shelves when the quake hit. you can see the lights starting to flicker. one man posted this youtube video. it showed a crack that formed after the quake struck. he showed video of water leaking out of his pop during aol. people reported that they felt this 5.7 even though its epicenter was in greenville in plumes county. that is more than 100 miles northeast of sacramento. >> what's interesting is how far south in the great valley you felt it. that's a function of the kind of rocks in the great valley. a lot of sediments, very flat. everybody knows that. those kind of

cal ema and we've developed the ability to import data from every allied organization whether it's usgs, the law enforcement agencies, fire, weather, what have you, to be able to put it out in layers so we literally can know everything going on. we can see lightning strikes that cause fires, down to the size of a car fire. we're often able to do predictive analysis that exceeds the ability of fire and other agencies and able to call them up because we can see this and we've trained our battle captains that work in our operations center to think ahead and think three moves ahead whether or not an event they see developing is going to cause a trigger that is going to require national guard or other military forces to deploy. >> if i may, i think it's for us, myself as the senior leader in third fleet, it's about information sharing and intelligence fusion and turning that into actionable knowledge. we have a 24/7 maritime operation center as well that we attempt to do that. we do have cnn up, usually turn the volume down and just look at the pictures and read the bumper sticker underneath

this is a map of the usgs that shows the potential levels of ground shaking that could be experienced across the bay area in a repeat of a major 1906-like earthquake on the san andreas fault. very strong shaking would affect most of san francisco and would last well over a minute. for context, in 1906, over 500 miles of the san andreas fault moved in a second. in 1989 in the loam loma prieta event (inaudible) understand our interdependancies and we launchd an inder dependancy study earlier this year. this will benefit all our operators as well as the region's businesses and residents. first we want to build on an understanding of all of our existing system interdependancies and the consequences of existing conditions to help expedite sppbs and restoration planning among agencies. with this we will also identify the key assets and respiration of priority schemes to prioritize and restoring and rebuilding our city and ultimately the region after such an earthquake. we will then work to develop a set of life line expectation under current systems and standards developed over the next dec
