uss iowa. and this is his led up. what do you expect to see and hear today? >> he's talked about coming to do the speech tonight on the deck of the battleship uss iowa. donald trump had a crowd of 20000 people in dallas. he had choice words for ben carson and other rivals and carly fiorina going after as well. all of them outsiders and up in the polls. he will talk about military policy and what he would do to help vets. he identified the problem and open question of whether he will talk about specifics. most of the time his speeches turn into rants against his rivals and last time scott walker on megyn kelliy took trump to task as walker said trump is wrong for america. >> people listen to this, more we realize it is not the country or party and not the country i grew up in. >> reporter: he's referring to the rhetoric, the absence of political experience. trump's political policy are under fire for a big- time super pac. club for growth very active in midterms and running millions of attack ads on candidates they deem to the right on budget. here is two against trump. and here is one about the supreme court case and the government's ability to take

uss battleship iowa." curtis lee, great seeing you. >> thanks for having me. >> what are we expecting tonight? >> well, donald trump comes to southern california where he's going to deliver this national security speech on board the "uss iowa interesting speech. mr. trump has early on in his candidacy kind of offended some veterans with his remarks over the summer about senator john mccain saying that he's not a war hero. obviously senator mccain spent five years as a prisoner of war in vietnam and he -- it will be interesting to see what he says on the stump as he's talking veterans issues ahead of tomorrow's debate. >> how's he doing with california republicans? do we know? >> the los angeles times had a recent poll that shows he's number one with california republicans, somewhere around 24%. ben carson is number two, around 18%. both are political outsiders and california republicans are kind of leaning toward them like we see in -- around the country nationwide in early nominating states, as well as in most national polls. >> i mean it is pretty much almost a photograph of how other states and other areas have been supporting mr. trump and other candidates. mr. trump being a celebrity, any other celebrities on the list

uss iowa for us tonight. a very high profile event on the eve of this debate, how did it go for donald trump? >> reporter: you know, donald trump was definitely rallying the crowd here on the uss iowa. there was a little awkwardness a few hundred feet away. there were some vocal protesters saying donald trump is a racist. can you hear that aboard the ship. a stark contrast. this is more than a national security speech. we did not hear a lot of specification. the crowd liked how he would reform the va. he had a strong military if he were president he talked a lot about immigration, which a number of people do view as a security issue f. you board that ship and you walked away with a very favorable impression even though it was light on specifics. >> reporter: sarah, what can you tell about the event? it's a joint campaign and fundraiser for a vets group, right? one vet group? >> reporter: yeah, the vote strong for america held the event. the chairman endorsed donald trump while aboard the vote. he said they don't usually do that, the 2016 is too important not to take a stand. that's what he was saying. it was a fundraiser essentially for this vet's group. they charge anywhere from $
