's diana magnay is there. diana, is it possible we could see this death toll continue to rise? >> reporter: it is possible. police and the red cross are still continuing their search around the island of utoya, in the waters, because many people, t.j., were shot as they were trying to swim out of the gunman's grip, and he shot at them in the water. we've been talking to eyewitnesss who have gathered here at this hotel waiting for parents to collect them, waiting for friends who never turned up. and they've had some amazing stories. one of them, for example, escaping in a boat, two boats managed to escape from the island, but they all had to lie completely flat so that the gunman couldn't reach them, he continued to fire at them. another told us how he had to swim, let's just listen to that story. >> i started swimming on to the fjords and then i got cramps because i had been in the water so long, so some of the locals saved my life. >> so you kind of hid in the water? >> yes. it was th

our diana magna is near utoya island. diana, how could one carry out this attack and plan both events? are police still sticking to the theory that one man carried out both of the an attacks? >> reporter: they are not ruling out the possibility, t.j., that he could have others helping him. he is the only suspect in custody. he will be charged for the shootings on utoya and the bombing at the capital. the huge explosion in the center of oslo an at the time when people were leaving for the weekend. a huge path there gave him a decoy to come on to the island dressed as a police officer with heavy guns on him. saying that he wanted to come and do a security check on the island. that is how he managed to get the boat over without arousing suspicion. when he landed on the island, he fired. as we know from the eyewitness testimony as we just heard. he was shooting for a long time. he was on the island for longer than an hour before police got to him in that time shooting for most of it. the eyewitness said there was a lull of 15

last friday's terror attack were shot to death right there on that remote island, it's called utoya island were attending this youth political camp, including 16-year-old julie bremnisz. and like so many teenagers, julie had her cell phone. and after seeing the gunman last friday, she was able to quickly grab it, call her mother, who was 800 miles away. mom and daughter stayed in contact by text messages for two hours off and on through from horrifying ordeal. in fact, i talked to julie's mother, marian, about those harrowing exchanges of text messages. listen. >> she called us and then she said, mom, don't panic, there's a man shooting here. so i didn't know what to believe, because i thought there was some sort of game or something. so i didn't realize at first how serious this was. the news were so occupied by the bomb explosion in oslo, so the news didn't know anything about this at that time. but when the first text message came, then i realized, this was for real. >> how close was your daughter to breivik? >> she says that he was about approximately 50 to 100 meters away from them. h

>> reporter: there were about 700 young people gathered on this island, utoya, a couple hundred meters from the place where i am now. these -- these youth were connected to the labor party, the ruling party of norway. these were persons across norway, gathered for several days. and what we have learned is that there was a man disguised as a policeman who entered this island and started shooting. >> do we know what his intentions were? if there was other materiels found that suspected that this attack might have been even worse? >> reporter: yes, the police say they have found undetonated explosives just a couple of hours ago. they're still searching the area around the island. a lot of boats are now searching for survivors. what happened was when this man started shooting, a lot of these young people, they started to swim and tried to get on this side of the place. >> we can only imagine the anguish of parents. what is the scene there tonight as people arrive on that scene? >> reporter: we are not allowed to enter the island. the police is stopping everyone except the parents of these
