reporter: yes, this police department was run by the school's district for uvalde.basically provided security for schools in that area, and that included robb elementary school, where the mass shooting happen. their offices were the first to respond to the shooting that day. they were alerted to the teenager salvador ramos, who was eventually killed by a border patrol agent, but there has been huge criticism about the response to the shooting that day. the head of that police department has already been fired. he was fired back in august, pete aredondo. he has been hugely criticized for the botched response to it. as i said, there has been ongoing investigations, to investigations at the moment, and it has recently emerged that one of the police officers who has just recently been hired by the uvalde school district was under investigation for her response on the day of the shooting when she was working in another job for the texas department of blic safety. now we have come to this latest development, where the entire police department for the uvalde school distric

usually, support for gun control goes up after a tragedy like uvalde. of races where it's been the main issue. the ohio governor's race really featured it more. stacey abrams in georgia to some degree has also made this an issue. but a lot of those candidates aren't doing well in their races. so i think there's probably a tendency this time around to shy away from the issue on either side, really. and you've seen this from the governors, as well. they're still raising and spending tens of millions in this election, but you have seen a shift where they're incorporating other issues into their messages. it's not just gun control, it's now abortion, and now they're spending in state secretary races that don't have anything to do with gun policy. and the nra has incorporated crime messages into their ads, as well. so the shift has been there across the board. >> except we see in that georgia gubernatorial race, it is pretty neck and neck. but unclear about whether the issues their stance on guns is a defining moment for either of them. steven, thank you so

as a new job as a newly hired school police officer at uvalde elementary.who survived the massacre. parents were the first to notice the officer on campus. recognizing her from body camera footage of the shooting. she's a four year veteran of the texas department of public safety, she was one of the first law enforcement officers on scene on may 24th. she resigned from the dps over the summer and was hired by the uvalde school district soon after. >> i have some questions for you. >> reporter: on the playground outside her new post, she can be seen here in the dark blue uniform. >> reporter: officer i'm doing a story about you and your time at dps. i'd like to ask you some questions, if possible. >> reporter: before she resigned from dps, her actions and the actions of six other dps officers at the scene of the shooting were referred for further investigation. in a redacted internal memo to the organization's director obtained by cnn, dps cited, quote, actions which may be inconsistent with training and department requirements as the reason for the referral
