cbs2's valerie castro reports. >> reporter: robert elling well remembers the day last october when he shot and killed three bears on his property in sparta, new jersey. it was an early morning when he heard his wife scream from their kitchen. a 300-pound bear on their back deck was trying to get inside the home to reach a bag of bird elling grabbed his shotgun and went outside to scare it away. >> it got distracted, so it turned its head and i shot it. >> reporter: the bear fell over the railing. when elling we want it take a look, he saw a second bear, climbing up to the deck. he fired again, then heard the third bear. >> part a growl and part a roar and part a cry. >> reporter: once again, he raised his shotgun. >> i hit it right in the head. down it went, and that was it. >> reporter: elling said state fish and wildlife officials came to investigate and he was issued summonses for hunting out of season and hunting near a residential home. but rather than admit guilt for something he says he isn't guilty of, elling is fighting the case in court. >> i wasn't guilty. that was a big an

valerie castro spoke to the woman's basketball in this exclusive report. >> reporter: surveillance video showing the 96-year-old woman being violently pushed to the ground. her son says she is suffering from a broken hip and needs surgery. he says she's not doing well. the push happened september 28th near nagel avenue, and in the video you can see virginia gus walk to the front door with her cane and step just outside. she says something to 24-year- old hanzel ramirez. he tries to come inside, but she raises her cane to stop him. it's unclear why. she tries to shut the door on ramirez who blocks it with her foot. she pokes him with her cane, and then he pushes her to the ground. her son quickly runs to the building and tells ramirez he's going to call the police. >> reporter: juana martinez is wearing the orange pants, and she holds the door as the paramedics push her out. everyone refers to her as grandma. >> it's sad. i'm sad for her because she is nice. >> she's from the neighborhood and like the mother of everybody, and yeah, that's just crazy. i can't believe someone would do that.

valerie castro spoke to the family of the woman who lost her life. >> i want her to come back. >> reporter: this grieving mother knows she will never see her daughter again, and she wants the man responsible for her death to turn himself into the police. >> just come forward. just come! give yourself up. >> reporter: the 24-year-old died when she was shot in the back on east 21st and broadway in the flatiron district on monday morning it's believed she and two other women, also shot, were innocent bystanders. >> my mom's first born, and i don't know what to say anymore. >> reporter: faussett's two friends were shot but are recovering and are expected to be okay. the gunman was aiming for the bouncers who tossed him from the nightclub. cell phone video shows the chaotic aftermath as the paramedics rush in to get the victims into the ambulance. faussett's family says she was celebrating her birthday, and she has a 3-year-old son. >> my grandson will not see his mom anymore. >> reporter: they hope it's only a matter of time before the shooter is behind bars. >> i'm so angry. and he is at home

cbs 2's valerie castro reports for hackensack. >> reporter: this white home in hackensack, new jersey, is now surrounded by crime scene tape. the bergen county prosecutor's office says a wanted suspect >> santos alvarez was shot once this evening at approximately 74:50. >> reporter: the district attorney's office says santos alvarez is accused of killing his girlfriend and 4-year-old son in jersey city last week. they were found unresponsive in this apartment. the search for alvarez led investigators to this home where two women said they were the only people inside. they have since been arrested, accused of hindering the investigation. detectives eventually found him at the back of the house. >> there were a lot of police officers in the small kitchen area. one shot was fired into the abdomen area. >> reporter: he is currently undergoing surgery at the his injuries are not life threatening. valerie castro, cbs 2 news. >>> and developing right now, flash floods triggered mud slides in southern california. this is 60 miles north of downtown los angeles. the mud poured through the local
