mike valero is on the scene with what he with know. mike, was this a child daycare center? what happened here? >> reporter: that's what we're working to confirm leslie at this hour. there have been people that have been passing us by, saying in fact, this was a child daycare as we push in. within the past half hour, the crime scene tape has cleared, but we'll take you and everybody through what exactly happened this afternoon, just before 4:00, we start getting reports in our newsroom that a child had accidentally drowned within this home, i should say, in the backyard, and that d.c. fire personnel were the first on the scene. they rushed that child to the nearest er, but that child just under 2 years old, lost his life and was unable to be resuscitated. as i said, within the past half hour, metropolitan police were here getting rid of the crime scene tape, interviewing eyewitness news, and of course neighbors as to what exactly happened, and of course, speaking to family members. we're talking to neighbors, and as soon as we have more, we'll put it on our website, wusa9.co
