it was so heartbreaking to watch valiyeva compete on thursday night.was such a stark contrast from the near perfection she displayed just over a week ago at the team event. this dark cloud of doping allegations hanging over not just her but her teammates as well even though two of them did actually win medals. there was so much tension, drama, a lot of tears. not necessarily tears of joy from all of these young athletes. that's why the ioc president thomas bach said he felt disturbed while watching valiyeva on thursday because she was clearly under so much mental distress. bach said he was even more upset when he saw how she was treated by the adults on the russian team after the event because instead of offering her comfort and help, the adults seemed to be giving her the cold shoulder. bach trading his fire for the adults under investigation in the doping investigation. incidentally, the court of arbitration released a summary of their hearing saying the claims by those adults that the whole thing was a mixup with her grandfather's drug not backed by
