. >>> we are continuing to watch a developing story in vallejo where firefighters have been monitoring a fire at a vacant car dealership. that fire had been burning for hours and still smoldering now. this happened yesterday around 1:00. ktvu's jade hernandez is there now with what's happening right now and what firefighters are planning this morning. good morning, jade. >> reporter: good morning. about 20 minutes ago we watched a big flair up right here at this dealership. when we pulled up this morning we could see the smoke and smell it. as early as tomorrow this building could be torn down. it's been burning since yesterday afternoon at 1:00 as claudine mentioned. it's the third fire in three weeks. the vallejo fire department investigators believe someone was cutting metal out of the building possibly using a butane torch which sparked flames. garbage and debris inside reached three feet in some spots. that's one of the reasons why firefighters believe this building could be -- could continue to burn this morning. to give you some background, the cadillac dealership closed two yea

it's in the glen cove waterfront park in vallejo. the city wants to bulldoze it. don knapp is there, where the indian tribe is taking a stand over the site. don. >> reporter: elizabeth, the greater vallejo recreational district does not deny that there are ancient native americans buried here. but that's not the question. the issue is, do plans for the area constitute desecration of the graves or preservation? activists marched through vallejo on behalf of native americans who died thousands of years ago and who may be buried here on the shores of the carquinez strait across from the sugar company near the i-80 bridge. they are protesting what they say is the looming disgreat lakes of graves in what's now vallejo's glen cove waterfront park. the district says it will restore the grounds to a natural state and build a small parking lot and two bathroom stalls. >> because many, many sacred sites are under threat by the bureaucrats and developers, we may take a stand of indigenous people of this country. if we don't take a stand, they will continue to desecrate these

let's talk about vallejo. you came from hong kong. why vallejo? >> the city was welcoming to us. i was touring the west coast in search of a home for the company. we were in milwaukee and wisconsin. then we moved to south san francisco. we were expanding. we needed space. the city was so welcoming and didn't give us space but sold it to us at a good price. the facility had everything. it was easy for us. >> that was then. this is now. vallejo has now gone bankrupt, one of the few cities in the world to do that. does it affect your business? have you thought about leaving? why stay now? >> for us, it has no impact whatsoever. none at all. it's life as usual. in a city that's really -- we couldn't feel anything different. there is no reason for us to move. our employees love the location. it's convenient. most of them live over here on the east bay and it's more convenient for them. i'm probably the only employee that lives on the peninsula. >> you have bucked a lot of trends, one of which is starting out wealthy and becoming wealthier. usually people born into money kind of have t

the fire broke out on powell street between vallejo and green. one fire investigator just arrived back on scene but all the fire engines have left quite a while ago. the street are re-opened in this north beach neighborhood. the fire as you mentioned happened overnight. it broke out around 12:40 this morning. it was on the 1500 block of powell. the fire was out 15 minutes later but not before causing some major damage. the building is completely uninhabitable according to the san francisco fire department. you're looking at this video of fire crews as they were trying to get it under control. this is a three-story residential building. three people inside were taken to saint francis memorial hospital. we spoke with the fire chief early this morning and he said one of the residents cut a foot trying to get out, escaped the flames. and two other people suffered minor injuries in this fire. they also tell us that 15 to 20 people were displaced including five children. the american red cross is helping, we understand, with temporary housing. so again
