hundred -- valley farm workers. hundreds of billions of gallons of water that she's communities had already paid for and depended upon were simply expropriated and blissfully dumped into the pacific ocean turning much of california's fertile central valley into a dust bowl. this bill redeems the promise made to the people of california and restores the allocations that were agreed to. that was then, this is now, and the science has changed. what they are referring to is not science, it is ideology masquerading as science. in 2010 their claims were thrown out of the federal court which cited ideological zealots who had attempted to, in the words of the court, quote, mislead and deceive the court into accepting what is not only not the best science, it's not science. the science is this. the northwest fishery science center determined specific oscillation as a principal factor in the migration. ocean currents. the california department of water resources determined that pumps which deliver water to the central valley

there are about twenty of these cables strung across the valley. all day long, people and goods fly across the river, seven hundred feet below. the ends are tied with these messy looking knots that in theory provide stability and safety. some of the wires have been in use for twenty years and have seriously slackened. but the cocaleros have never bothered replacing them. to prevent the pulleys coming loose, they use string at each end as a kind of sketchy safety pin. this guy trusts the system so much that he takes his kid stuffed in a bag, across the valley on a wire. even at seventy two, this old man called don ignacio flies across the valley every day to tend to his coca plantation on the other side of the mountain. since the price of coffee collapsed, coca has taken over as the main crop for the yungas. it's been cultivated since the time of the incas. a form of narcotic, chewed by the locals to overcome tiredness. it's harvested three times a year and it's worth approximately thirty percent more than coffee. don ignacio was one of the first to

it happened in castro valley. two officers trying to arrest the suspect on grow grove way and center street. anne makovec is in castro valley with what happened next. >> reporter: the intersection is open after the incident at 5:00 last night. last night our crews ran into a woman who said the suspect in this case was the father of her baby. >> did they shoot him? they did? oh, my god! oh!! oh, my god! >> reporter: here is what led up to that. an undercover berkeley police officer was following a car near center street. they arrested a man at the stop light. officers say the suspect then backed up his vehicle pink the berkeley -- pinning the berkeley officer between the two cars. other officers surrounded the cars, one armed with an assault rifle who opened fire on the suspect. another agency is investigating because it happened outside of the city of berkeley. there are a lot of missing pieces of information including why officers were chasing this suspects. the pinned officer had leg and hand injuries. he and th

is now reopened here in castro valley. it's a busy intersection. we have several fast-food restaurants here, starbucks, some gas stations. and this happened last night when the intersection was very busy at around 5:00 yesterday evening. an undercover berkeley police officer was in the silver car tailing a suspect in the maroon car when officers on grove way near center street, this intersection, they decided to arrest this guy right at the stop light. officers say the suspect then backed up his vehicle pinning the berkeley officer between the two cars. other officers then surrounded the cars, one armed with an assault rifle. >> they fired shots. i heard two shots from him. then i heard two more. so total of four shots altogether. >> reporter: you can see several bullet holes indicating where the officer was standing when he opened fire. the officer who was pinned had leg and hand injuries. they are both expected to live. the suspect was under investigation. there was a warrant out for his arrest but they won't say why. on
