it's what made the valley startups and also those that say the spirit of the valley is lost today because there are so many big companies. the way small-company started. in the 50s and 60s when the federal government was acting in all the ways i just described in the 1970s what started to happen was the valley realized. there were two key pieces of legislation that i won't go into in great depth. one was a capital gains tax cuts ancutand the other was a changen the law about who could invest in which pension funds were allowed to invest. and suddenly it was possible to invest in very high-risk companies and that was the capital that rushed into the valley was enormous. throughout this time it was seen as kind of the golden child of the golden state not only to the economy but national security it led to significant legislation and defensiveness against japanese imports. for the trials at the end of the '90s as a good example of how things start to shift, but by and large, silicon valley from dc. but now it's really different. the biggest companies are in the crosshairs. they see them as l

what i would say about silicon valley is some of the criticism is fair. these people have to grow up and be more responsible. i have a chapter where i talk about moral responsibility. you break it, you fix it. whether it is the impact on work and his role in the workplace and creating a new kind digital tailor the have the responsibility to at least fix some of this stuff and it also models. he understood that it broke local journalism are having made a lot of money and spend most of their life actually trying to figure out how to reinvent local newspapers. i think that he is a model so silicon valley critique is legitimate and important enough to force these people to grow up. as you say it is very historical you look back at the industrial revolution. i'm not celebrating robbery but i am suggesting that these people have a moral responsibilities, whether it is craig newmark, they are being forced to grow up and they are growing up so it is legitimate but it's not healthy to just trash them. >> you don't agree with any of that? >> i do agree that there i

it's about women in silicon valley and technology. i thought we could start with questions that are super important that most startup founders most people who will be raising money get asked we talked about building startups and inventing the future task about what important truth do you believe underage beer a few people agree with you i'm not done, given some of the research and statistics you found in your book around this radical idea that women should have equal opportunity and could contribute to silicon valley success in the industry, where did you get such a radical idea? >> it was radical at the time. this is before trump and before me too. people would whisper about it we talk about it off-camera and then nobody would say what they really wanted to say. a woman who is raising money doesn't want to risk not raising money because she's calling out investors who are 93% male. yet everybody had ideas about why women have been left out. women account for 25% of computing jobs, women led companies get 2% of funding. 2% people have

you've got snow accumulating, 2 to 4 inches in the lehigh valley. and then as the atmosphere is warming up, that snow then changes over to ice. slippery conditions one way or the other. wilmington right now is dry maybe not for much longer. the radar is showing the first wet weather, that snow is falling in new castle county. very light snow. farther to the south the atmosphere is trying to warm up. it's not cold enough for it to be snow. unfortunaty, that is ice coming in because it's falling on ground that is frozen this morning, there is more of that. it's not a lot of ice, but it really doesn't take much. here's the situation, temperatures just below freezing. starting to nudge up. that's a good sign, but the ground is still cold. so i'm very concerned about seeing icing not only in delaware and new jersey but into the suburbs as well. the ice potential, that happens during the morning commute. it's but just a thin layer, even at 10:00 could be a problem this morning. we'll break it down hour by hour and show you when conditions will improve dur

fog in the central valleys as the valley fog builds in the morning hours. but most of our areas still under this ridge of high pressure. but you can see a few more clouds trying to work in towards san francisco. and that's a sign of this high pressure ridge that's weakening. so what's it mean? it means less of an offshore wind. it's not going to be as intense. yesterday we had a few areas of gusty conditions across the hills along the oakland hills and to the north. but today, very calm conditions. still overall a northeast wind that's coming in. but it's very, very light. that's why that fog will be allowed to kind of settle into the valley spots. but it's also why we are not going to be as warm. so that offshore wind always brings us more heating and temperatures will be cooler than yesterday. >>> right now, we are going to take it back out to that accident we are tracking along 580. all our "super commuters" out there, westbound 580 a crash involving a couple of cars in the center divide. they are just waiting on some tow trucks to arrive so speeds could

she has seen it all in silicon valley could she has been entrepreneur a top valley seen silicon become joining us is the ceo of the real real, julie, great to have you here. i am so curious as somebody who has seen so much in silicon valley. how much do you think has changed when it comes to the representation and treatment of women in technology and what hasn't changed? >> well, you know, i actually started in tech after i left clorox in 1983, so a long time ago. at that time it felt like a meritocracy. there were other things going on that were a little head scratching, but it felt like, nascentit was such a industry, we were all pulling together and you progressed based on your work. certainly it has changed quite a bit and some things have not changed. i would say if you look at the latest funding report, women are 3% of venture capital that goes to females, but it has been stuck there for over a decade and never has gotten higher. that is the bad news. the good news is that due to other activities, there is a light being shined on the bro culture, while i don't expect that much to
