these projects done for this community was no other than your current supervisor for district 5, vallie brown [applause] >> supervisor brown: thank you, mayor breed. i'm really happy to be standing here today and to be talking about this. just a few months ago, we were at fire station 5, brand-new opened. not only is it absolutely state-of-the-art and beautiful, but it is going to be a hub if anything happens in this city. and when i think about we have so many other stations and buildings that we need to have this kind of bond money to be able to fix them up so if we do have earthquakes, if we have things that happen in this city, that we're prepared. when we look at -- i know that mayor breed was talking about kezar and other places, but when we have a major earthquake, and if we think about the earthquake that just happened in southern california, and how strong it was, but it was in the desert. but think about what if it was here, and what it could have done to our city. i think about that every day, and what i would do if my place was flattened in the city. i probably would be camping in

london breed: many of you all know vallie brown. she's been a community advocate in this district for so many years. not only does she spend time cleaning it up, i mean, personally, literally in the morning, picking up track with her own picker, but she also spends a lot of time fighting for resources in this community. whether it's our public safety locations or our community locations, she's been a real advocate, and some of you know the work that was done here, also, the track that was repurposed. and commissioner buell, what was the location over here by the triangle? what is that called? yeah, with public and private dollars, we're transforming this area. and when i served as supervisor, the person who was really actively engaged in working with the community and helping to bring together public and private resources to get these projects done for this community was no other than your current supervisor for district 5, vallie brown. [applause] >> next we will have supervisor vallie brown. >> well, add, i'm the cautionary tale, and it had nothing to do with not a protected bike lane, and it was actually my fault. i was trying to go fast to beat a light, and when i came after the intersection, i realized, this is a stupid thing to do, so i slammed on my brakes, and put my leg down, and my knee went a little, i tweaked it, i'm good, and absolutely good, i just have to be off of it for a couple of days, but i wanted to come. i know you will come to the board of supervisors today and we will talk about you, but he wanted to come up. , it is all good. [laughter] i wanted to come up here with the commissioners because i have worked with you for a long time. when you were the director of public works, and then m.t.a. i just heard chief scott say you were always calm, and you always wear, no matter who was yelling at you or rattling the chain. you came back and said, hey, let's try to make this work. for a city leader in a department, that is so important to us on the board of supervisors, or residents of this city. we wan

and thanks to the leadership of supervisor vallie brown and supervisor fewer, they helped create an office of equity where we are making investments to really try and shine a light on what we know are real challenges around access, education, affordability, and the things that continue to show really racial disparity that needs to -- that we need to take a look at, provide the data, and really make the right investments to turn it around. opportunities for all, as you will know, is a program that is near and dear to my heart. making sure that every high school student in san francisco has access to a paid internship, and i want to thank all of the city departments for stepping up and providing internships, and now it is time to halt -- holds the private sector accountable, to not only contribute, because a deafening contributed to opportunities for all, but they need to have more placement for our young people, and that is what i'm committed to moving forward. thank you to supervisor mar who is not here with us today. we worked together to fully fund free city college for san francisco.
