plus, he exposes why van jones is finally praising the president.tacey abrams came out earlier today. and while she claimed she probably doesn't have a victory in this race, she's still falling short of making a concession to brian kemp. she said she's file a federal lawsuit for gross mismanagement of the process. you don't like how the election is playing out, so you threaten legal action and call for an entire re-election. after brow-beating trump over whether he would accept the results of the presidential election, the democrats have made this constant challenge posture their new normal. no one likes to lose. i don't. but this is all getting a little bit ridiculous. here with reaction is someone who represented the great state of georgia as speaker of the house, newt gingrich. and, newt, first question, would the abrams camp feel this emboldened if democratic leaders -- you've got hillary clinton down there, corybook, egging them on, basically saying if she doesn't win, the election was stolen. >> let's start with that. you have a whole series o

this is an area where people have been working together, van jones and jared kushner among others. it will reduce three strikes drug penalty from life behind bars to 25 years, and reduces sentences when a firearm is used during another crime, and allows judges to issue shorter sentences for low-level crimes. this is something both parties have been working on for a long time and it might be something that only president trump could get through. >> this is the nixon and china opportunity. the president's frustrated because he feels backed into a corner, and this announcement yesterday shows a path forward of how he can govern effectively and get things done. this president has such sway to the base that he may be able to get something like this done. that's a vision of how to make the next two years productive, and he deserves applause. >> quickly, that's the point. whatever his dark mood is the affect it has nationally is what we are interested in, and at the moment the fact they are able to get something done, it seems like he can stew all he wants but something is still proceedin

this is not a grand, sweeping reform of the criminal justice system, as people like van jones, for example, have been pushing for. what does this bill do? >> this is prison reform. so the first step act is an act that passed the house of representatives earlier this year, and has been stalled in the senate. it doesn't deal broadly with sentencing which is why 57 democrats voted against it. they said it did not go far enough. sentencing issues in this country -- how you get to jail is just as important as how you get out of jail. what this bill does do is mandate the attorney general to create an assessment tool to assess recidivism, the potential recidivism rate of potential prisoner going into jail and creating a program and reassessment so folks can get out of jail earlier and it can be a rehabilitative process that we are not just warehousing disproportionately, if we're being frank, black and brown people in america. >> the name is out there. first step act. this is a great first step. the president has to thread the needle here. the members of congress do. as simone points out, doesn'
