there is not as much traffic on south van ness. the buses moved over to mission street so there is not as much of those concerns and it would not make a lot of sense to move the entrance. in terms of the building, it gives me great pause. i live survive blocks from the site so i am aware of how this building looks very different to the context of the neighborhood. i agree that i think it looks a little too much like an office building and not too much like a residential building. it does not relate to the street in a way that we would prefer. overall, all of the other ideas with the open space, the affordability on site, they are a lot of the right things in this project. i think the project, when it is faced, is a great project. in a major issue is with the design. if you ever got from a few other commissioners. it is not that it is not an interesting design. i think in another location it might work very well. i think in this location, who have a harder time understanding how it relates. i am not saying i cannot support the proje

historically, if you go along van ness avenue, there were mansions. then the earthquake came, and they were replaced with mostly auto yards. there have been some additions, the worst of which is a holiday inn, which i hope will disappear. some of the faux-classic are not done as well as they could be. others have been done extremely well. an example is 77 van ness. i just walked down there. it fits in beautifully. it is clearly a new building, but they have the right elements there. the same architect did the greenwich, which is up close to my office. it is very well done and fits well with the chateau, which fits well across the street. i wish this have done a better job of trying to relate to the other buildings in that area, both the department buildings -- the apartment buildings and the auto building. those buildings all had symmetry to them. i think trying to have these elements come out that are not symmetrical, while it does break the building up, there are ways you could do it and still have a symmetrical building that fits in better. second,

i would like to address van ness instead. i have tried to contact your planner about this, and he never called me back, time after time. and i tried to reach the developer. this week, i heard from the developer. we have the middle neighbors, and david chu. he is a supervisor who is supposed to deal with this, if he gets this on appeal. this is in the committee that was open. we heard about this and a couple of people said that they want the house and on site. i said that there are reasons not to put this their in terms of the fact that people who get low income housing in this project cannot afford to keep this. there are over $5 billion there that could go into the affordable housing fund and the designated. the mayor's office said that they want to do this, subject to being able to get the funding. they have a plan and they have analyzed this. david baker has given his services so far. what a perfect place to put this money. the same thing happened on pacific. we could have used it for that. the methodist church wanted affo

the van ness station was not operational. they had shut it down. i do not understand what happened on the inside. more than once, the station has been shut down, and not because of a protest, because of trains being stuck in a tunnel. do we have antiquated systems in the tunnel? for me, one of the reasons you have an impact is unpredictability about when the train is gone to come. are they stuck in the tunnel? water we doing about that? for me, the system works really well when it works. what about the issues in that area. >> we have one of the most porous transit systems. it is not fully separated from traffic. art is rarely late or has on- time performance issues. a lot of our muni rail system is on street level. they can get stuck in traffic, which causes public transit -- public congestion. with the tunnel itself, we are basically at capacity. we are upgrading a lot of systems. some of them are quick to install. we're working on the ones that are most cost effective. other things require a longer lead time. the other is to look at the metro sys

we have been at the 100 van ness location for the past 18 years. we brought to you late last year action to authorize me to renew the lease on that location because we had a five- year option that we have to exercise, and that require that we provide notice of that early enough. we did that. what happened since then, the building changed hands. aaa used to own the building. the move out of town, sold the building to patson. they held the building some time from 2009. in march 2011 this year they defaulted on their loan on the building. it was essentially taken over by the lenders, the national electrical benefit funds. the lenders have different plans for the building. i understand there want to redevelop the building as a residential building, which frankly, as a planner, living at the future of van ness, brt, is a great idea, unfortunately, it has a great affect on us. they have come back to us and said that we would like you out of the building, frankly, and we would like not to exercise its option on the lease. we have had some back and forth a

we got the ok on the feasibility on the brt project on van ness. that clears the way of sorting through the final design exception with them. as you recall, van ness avenue is a state group. that is another major milestone. unfortunately, i had to miss that. some great ideas coming out of the netherlands. some good news on -- boulevard. that is also a state route. caltrans is restricting the boulevard to turn it into two lanes instead of three. bike lanes and safer crosswalks. matter warnings for drivers for people crossing the street. caltrans has already issued a procurement on that. this is between everglade and 19th avenue. we are reaching some milestones on some other studies. the bay shore intermodal access study has also seen a complete draft report. the final report of the study that was presented to the city council, which has a major stake in terms of land use position that will affect areas surrounding the station. of course, the station is intended to be the terminal of the -- in connecting to caltrain. we will bring you a final report
