in fact, it's already started here on van ness and bush. you can see they have already chopped down a lot of the trees in the median and put up barriers. there are only two lanes of traffic in each direction right now. that's down from three. and this is a three-year construction project. van ness will eventually look like this with a bus-only lane down the middle of the road. people will board there in the middle. new landscaping and lighting. the only left turns off van ness will be at broadway and lombard. now, eventually, the city says this will be sort of a grabbed boulevard but in the meantime, it is a bit of a mess. >> it's frustrating but san francisco in general is hard to get around in. >> having to leave earlier take another route. >> reporter: it is the side streets that have taken the brunt of the traffic here. traffic on franklin and goff have both been increased significantly a lot of people trying to get around this by taking three turns instead of one. this morning's groundbreaking ceremony is at 11 a.m. with the mayor down
