i used the van ness service quite a bit in my day. the mobile van, i'm looking forward to that. i wish we done that sooner. we should use that a lot. we want to spread the message of muni to the masses and make it easier for people to get their fares. i want to use that not as a platform to take money -- and to be ambassadors to help people to be em-- empowered with the program. teach a person to fish and you feed them for life. i think that's the way it went. as far as staffing and service, that's very important. i think we have to look very hard as to those who are coming up positive for covid. what their vaccination status is. we have to find out how are people getting covid? are people wearing their masks as they should be doing? i wear masks all the time and definitely on buses and trains. we have to dig done to find out why people are getting covid and whether it's happening on the job or not, thank you. i have never been to his home, but he was living on, i believe, market and van ness in an apartment. as some point he worked for the city. i don't know what's been happening since the pandemic, but this was an individual who also volunteered at soup kitchens, who fed disabled friend of ours food. whenever we had gatherings. he took the initiative to do all the feeding. this was an individual and i had no idea he had the mental break and needed it until his friends and family -- if one of us had been contacted somehow, i believe the situation would have turned out differently. i do want the community to know that this was an syringe who was loved by many and he was not well described as is just a transient passing through the city. he's been an sf resident for many years and went galileo high school as well. that is my public commentary. to humanize him and that he was a member of the community who had a mental break and none of us knew what had transpired apparently with nelson. and we're really devastated by this loss. that is all i have to say. i don't have a question at this time.

talk through the next slide, a big reason for increases has been our increased cost at 49 south van ness compared to our previous building. salaries and fringe where we spend our money, so it's us, the people, and we are looking at bringing that down a slight amount from 40 to 38, and so that is a significant part of the 2.5 reduction in the fees. this overhead number is set by the controllers office, it will not change until after you have hopefully approved our proposed budget. we don't know what that number will be, and they put it in our budget and then they take it out of our budget once next year starts. so that we don't have any control over. nonperson al services includes everything from software to leases on photocopiers, contracts, a whole variety in there, and the change here is related to both software and contracts. not a huge change if you look at the overall dollar figure. we are proposing that we will not change the budget, we are hoping to be in-person more and so bringing that down or picking it up is not something that we can predict right now, so leaving it as is is o

i just recalled this recently, we were dealing with the challenges with the van ness project and all recommendations that came out of that issue and the m.o.u.s and the some of the implementation issues. i'm wondering if we are sort of taking some of those, i mean, all of those recommendations and making sure this time, we are doing it right and we are not going to be in the same situation five years, ten years from now. >> absolutely. in fact, we actually joined sfmta on what we call segment a. so this is segment b. we're actually completing the segment a work with sfmta. it's the same team. same construction management team. same design team and on a p.u.c., pretty much the same team on our side. and we actually got lucky. the same contractor became the low bidder. so segment a has been implemented successfully. the we understand there's a lot of press because there's a lot of issues. on a joint project. we're not getting as much press on it because it's going so well. so we plan to continue that for segment b. >> commissioner: perfect. thank you. and that's not an uncommon thing.
