. >> van ness avenue runs from market street to bay street in san francisco.south vanness runs from south of market to cesar chavez street. originally residential after the 1906 earthquake it was used as a fire break. many car dealerships and businesses exist on vanness today with expansion of bus lanes. originally marlet street was named after james vanness, seventh mayor of san francisco from 1855 to 1856. vanness heavy are streets in santa cruz, los angeles and fresno in his honor. in 1915 streetcars started the opening of the expo. in 1950s it was removed and replaced by a tree-lined median. it was part of the central freeway from bayshore to hayes valley. it is part of uses 101. it was damaged during the 1989 earthquake. in 1992 the elevator part of the roadway was removed. it was developed into a surface boulevard. today the vanness bus rapid transit project is to have designated bus lanes service from mission. it will display the history of the city. van ness avenue. >>> a city like no other, san francisco has been a beacon of hope, and an ally towards

let's talk about the bus rapid transit project on van ness avenue. extensive have the improvements been? >> what's called the van ness transit rapid project is in fact more about complete reconstruction of the street and most importantly, the 100-year-old utilities underneath the street. so all of the water, sewer, telecommunications, gas lines under the street were basically rebuilt from market street all the way to lumbard. the part on the surface which provides dedicated bus lanes for golden gate transit and muni, that was relatively straight forward and we're so excited we're going to start revenue service for muni on april 1st. >> that's fantastic. i understand there were some sidewalk improvements too. >> there were sidewalk improvements. we planted 374 trees. there is new storm water treatment including infiltration in the sidewalk, there's a bunch of art. there's all kinds of things. we put in new street lights for the entire corridor. >> finally, the other big news is about the central subway. can you briefly describe the project and give us

that are allegedly dealing the drugs have moved to ellis street particularly between larkin and van nessey are actually going into northern station. and as i have noticed on a few occasions on the last couple of weeks, there was a group of individuals that weren't using, but from past experience and walking tenderloin with your officers and the foot patrols are out, those individuals tend to leave the area. the users, people that are, they are using drugs, they don't tend to leave the area, and the police on many occasions, say, no, you can't do that anymore and some occasions they let them be and other occasions they asked if they were okay because they looked like they were asleep and maybe od'ing at the time. i noticed that the individuals dealing the drugs tend to leave the area. they are not arrested because there is no actual proof that they are handing it to the individual a few feet away and they don't want the police to figure out that they are and at the same time they leave. that to me without coming in is an effective way of cleaning the streets. as you correctly pointed out,

the other clinic that was highlighted was the south van ness adult behavioral health services which focused on gender health and hiv. the second area highlighted in the gender health prevention was the goal of the programs, and the goal of the programs is health and well-being. the focus is, as we just heard in the prevention, hiv, s.t.i., s.t.d., and hep-c. the community partnerships, briefly, on the presentation of the health access points, not only the presenters but commissioner chow said it's going to be just a real change a change action is well needed but further focuses what we're doing to meet the needs of the community. we also had a presentation to discuss the status of the providing of health in the san francisco hiv community again, and what was extremely important was the presentation of the data improved initiatives and the studies that really make a difference not only here but nationwide as a leader in the hiv field. to i don't know if commissioner bernal would like to add, but this was an absolutely excellent presentation and kind of a lead-in to our commission presentatio
