we're at south van ness at 21st in the mission. we're driving around because there has been a lot of downed trees in the area. and we notice the power was out. there is a large scaffolding as you can see in ethan's picture. the building looks like it's a brand-new remodel. pg&e told us this is the reason for the 2,000 power outages that are in the area. a woman that just came up to us told us that originally pg&e told her that her power would be back on at 7:15. now they said 7:15 tomorrow night instead of tonight. so this is a

when we look at van ness, vrt and getting on the 49 and quickly and immediately get all the way up van ness or being able to hop on the 14 mission and because of those red lanes, quickly get down mission street. and now this morning, i hopped on a castro street, my muni station, and took it down to pal and had a really short walk to the central subway to this station and that just warmed my heart and it makes me so optimistic for the future of san francisco and for the future of public transportation in san francisco. because we know that we need our transit systems to work for our city and for our region. this region is only going to succeed if people are able to get around easily. if people are able to get within san francisco, back and forth to the east bay, down to the south bay, we don't have a choice. we have to make it work and this is going to help make it work. the central subway is going to be a new spine right in the middle of our public transportation system and that is why i'm so, so excited about today. i will say that this is great. this is such a fantastic day, but this

yep, that's drainmond green, which we spotted at the corner of mission and van ness. it's draining men, steiner in california in pac heights. basically it's a lot of drain puns. there's also twist and curvy, which are at the base of the twisty and curvy part of lombard street. joining us now is david lang. his day job, a real estate agent. he's also a longtime volunteer drain cleaner in pacific heights. david, nice to have you on the program. we're all having fun with these names but you guys are providing a real valuable service. why isn't the city of san francisco able to do this? >> well, the city had to cut back a couple years ago or decades ago to not every week but every two weeks, and mother nature doesn't tell you when it's going to rain or the leaves are going to drop. so i just feel it's easier to do my bit so no one slips and falls. you have two schools near where i live. you don't want kids and people walking their pets, going into the streets. it's for safety. we have compost bins now. let's use them. >> it's really a good community service. you watch ove

we're along 17th street not far from van ness where last week water levels were very high, a lot of businesses and nearby residences had water damage and spent several days clearing things out. today a day to dry out and prepare for what's likely to come next. a lot of barriers all along 17th street and we saw a lot of the more than 15,000 sandbags. the city of san francisco says it's begin out over the last week or so. this area says it is much more prepared for what is likely to come in the days ahead. >> another big storm coming in. are businesses feeling relieved, like they're prepared, or on high alert? >> reporter: a little bit of all of those. they are relieved they are cleared out now. a lot of sandbags along the street and streets nearby. still a little bit of nervousness. they don't know how the storm drains will act if they back up or if any of the barriers are really going to work. so far the last couple of days there was some rain and it seemed to work out pretty well. they do remember last week all the flooding that happened here. >> we'll see you live at 6:00 tonight. thank you

when we look at van ness, vrt and getting on the 49 and quickly and immediately get all the way up van ness or being able to hop on the 14 mission and because of those red lanes, quickly get down mission street. and now this morning, i hopped on a castro street, my muni station, and took it down to pal and had a really short walk to the central subway to this station and that just warmed my heart and it makes me so optimistic for the future of san francisco and for the future of public transportation in san francisco. because we know that we need our transit systems to work for our city and for our region. this region is only going to succeed if people are able to get around easily. if people are able to get within san francisco, back and forth to the east bay, down to the south bay, we don't have a choice. we have to make it work and this is going to help make it work. the central subway is going to be a new spine right in the middle of our public transportation system and that is why i'm so, so excited about today. i will say that this is great. this is such a fantastic day, but this
