that's alvin brag cy vance having retired., and is there one you think trump likely fears more? >> okay. so he fears both of them, and i say that because, you know, tish james, you're correct. it's a civil matter meaning that he will ultimately be responsible for very, very, very significant amounts of penalty when this case comes to fruition. now, you have to remember that donald and his dollars are synonymous. his only self-worth to himself, of course, is how much he claims to be worth. now, i also want to remind you that the attorney general's office is working in tandem with the district attorney's office, they are picking up that aspect. but what makes this case unusual is they are working together. so while -- while cy vance's case is criminal, and you have tish james's case is civil, they are working together and so the result in one will ultimately be the result in another, so he fears both equally. >> okay. when it comes to the chances of getting testimony as we've heard, there is testimony in these cases they want to

vance, josh mandell and that insane primary taking place on the senate side. in many ways, the dynamics of dewine and what is in his primary race seem like they're emblematic of what we see nationwide as trump gets involved in these primaries. lay it out for us. >> as you say, it is a sprawling senate circus primary with most wanting trump's endorsement which gets most of the attention. right below, the governor's race. the establishment branding, iowa politics, and the top challenger. not his only challenger. what we see happening here more and more, the former trump campaign manager has been advising. he puts himself forward as the trump candidate. i've been in ohio over the last year and you get a visceral sense that not only is there real support for trump still within the republican base, a considerable portion of it. even more so, the anti-dewine sentiment, primarily because the stiffer covid restrictions than we've seen from many other republican governors. i hear all the time when i'm in ohio. like ron desantis. so that's what we have at play here with

attorney joyce vance. she is also an msnbc legal analyst. we have a lot of stories to go over right now but they all fall under the banner of the 2020 election and the effort to either subvert it or to overturn it in some places. leigh ann, we'll start with the latest bit of news and that is the committee wanting to talk to ivanka trump. ivanka trump's spokesperson responding. when i read that response, it didn't immediately address what they were asking which was to come talk to them. >> it didn't, katy. it's been a big week for the january 6th select committee. i know pete is going to talk about the supreme court. as far as ivanka trump is concerned, the committee sent her an 11-page letter outlining what they want to hear from her and in that letter, they detail some of the previous testimony that they've already received from some of their witnesses, including keith kellogg. they quote -- he was in the oval office on january 6th with ivanka trump at one time when the former president, donald trump, was on the phone with former vice presi

attorney joyce vance.me you, these subpoenas come days after deputy attorney general lisa monaco also confirmed that federal prosecutors are looking into this matter. the doj is considering whether or not to press criminal charges. what do you think makes that determination? >> well, first, i think i would caution folks not to overread what deputy attorney general monaco said. i think she was acknowledging that doj had received a referral on these cases, these investigations from state prosecutors, and that they were determining whether or not to open a matter. i wouldn't view this as a full-on acknowledgment that doj is investigating. but that threshold matter aside, while the january 6th committee is on a fact-finding mission, it's up to the justice department to decide where criminal conduct occurred, and increasingly here, it's very difficult to avoid the clear cut evidence that suggests that there has to be an investigation into whether there was some form of criminal conspiracy to interfere with the

attorney joyce vance and david, you know this guy.oes it surprise you that somebody who is ranking member of the judiciary committee who literally screams and sheiks at witnesses for a living is going to defy this select committee? >> look, on a base lying level of patriotism, yes, it surprises me but what we know is jim jordan is hiding a lot. he is covering up a lot. he is hiding and covering up text messages, voice mails, whatever the communications look like with donald trump that day, which he has acknowledged kind of but kind of not knows the president's frame of mind and that's the most critical piece that jordan can offer. now, i would also tell you, i think the committee will have a tough time enforcing a say knee -- subpoena against jim jordan. we may have talked about this a week or two ago. i think what the committee has to demonstrate is jim jordan likely has information related to the conduct of criminal activity because jim jordan is right, just protesting the election on the floor of the house as a member of congress t
