stanford legend tara vanderveer is retiring. ktvu bailey o'carroll was on campus, spoke with people who say they're thankful for all she's done for women and basketball. >> 38 years after she walked on to stanford's campus and took over as head coach of the women's basketball program, tara vanderveer is hanging it up. in her nearly 40 years here. she's earned a resume few could even dream of. she is over 1200 career wins, is a three time ncaa champion, 15 time pac 12 coach of the year, five time national coach of the year, and this year was officially crowned the winningest coach in the ncaa history in any sport, women's or men's, and she led the u.s. national team to a gold medal in the 96 olympic games. vanderveer started her career as an unpaid graduate assistant at ohio state, before she was hired by stanford in 1985. it was a time when the three point shot was not recognized in women's college basketball and the wnba was still seven years away from its inception. i remember as a graduate student going to women's basketball
