let's turn to that guy, stuart varney varney. what's up? >> it is going to cost a lot more. a spike. the price of gasoline is going straight up. a lot of analysts are saying it is going to go up between 10 and 20 cents a gallon in the next few days. the reason is the price of oil is going straight up, and the reason for that is egypt. chaos in egypt. the suez canal is in the middle of egypt, and the suez canal is threatened by this chaos in the political situation there, and oil goes through the suez canal. so up goes the price when the suez canal is threatened. al qaeda camps have been located in the desert near the suez canal, so now we have the price of oil at $107 a barrel, and gasoline today is up nearly 2 cents a gallon at $3.52. look at that for the price of oil. straight up. the price of gas is $3.52 today and going up a lot more in the very near future. >>steve: what i learned at the stuart varney school of economics is the fact that the reason it goes up is because we have to get a lot gas -- of gas over there. if we have it here and we extract it out the ground, t

stuart varney, "varney & company" host, fox business network with me now. stuart, good morning to you. >> good morning, bill. bill: is this as bad as people think the study suggests? >> yes it is and in fact it is getting worse. middle class people are seeing incomes, real incomes decline. what they can buy with their incomes is in decline. the pace is actually speeding up. for lower income workers it is 4% decline over the obama years. some categories of labor it is worse than that over four years of president obama's first term that speed of declining real incomes has actually seeded up. bill: you look at stock market is booming. we're at record highs. what explains that? >> that is bus ben bernanke is pumping a trillion dollars a year into the economy, 85 billion a month. he is the stimulus helping the stock market and helping the housing market. so far it has not helped the economy. bill: take away the ink and perhaps the bulls are not running as much as they have been? >> that's true. bill: others will continue the policy's wrong. you can't keep taxing

stewart varney joins me now, anchor of varney and company. it is a shocking number. one in sick americans. >> reporter: i have an even more astonishing number for you. 101 million recipients of some kind of food assistance from the federal government. there are 15 food assistance programs which include food stamps and 101 million people get the benefits. by contrast only 97 million americans work full time. let me break down that 101 million number for you. almost 47 million on food stamps. 32 million school lunches. 10 million lunches in school. 8 million the women and infants. 2 million milk and summer food program. 2 million get farmer's markets coupons for women and children. the important number is 101 million recipients of food assistance from the federal government. 97 million people in america work full time. martha: so you have got more people on food assistance than you do fully employed in the united states of america. it just also is significant to me when you look at those numbers, there are a lot of hungry children in this country. does that tell us tha

sarah varney? guest: i don't know the answer to that.uest: the idea is that each state is supposed to have one. it is problematic in some states. there are multistate plans, which we haven't mentioned before. the people who designed the law and who wrote it foresaw the chance that in some parts of the country there might not be sufficient competition. there are provisions to have at least one nonprofit of the state plan and one for-profit of the state plan. still being implemented now. not likely to be rolled out on a national basis, as was the original intention. but there are other backstops intended to bring in more competition into states that may be lacking them. another is the co-ops. the federal government, the law provided large subsidies to set a brand-new insurance companies in some states. typically these are blue states like maryland, california -- guest: stopped midstride. they got defunded. guest: so it won't be in every state. but the point is that there may be limits to competition and that is something that is going to h
