stuart varney, host of "varney & company" on the fox business network. lot to go through first on the jobs. 209. 6.2, what is your read? >> disappointing. a lot of people were expecting maybe 300,000 new jobs. unemployment rate that went down. we didn't get. that. 209 new jobs which is 90,000 new jobs fewer than the new jobs we created in the month of june. perhaps more importantly for the markets, hourly wages went up only one cent. that is it. bill: little contrary to what we were thinking yesterday at this time. >> we had a string ever good economic reports this week. nice growth for the economy. growth in wages all the rest of it. now the big report comes out and lets you down flat. it is disappointing. hourly wages up one cent. bill: 6.2%. sometimes that indicates -- >> more people looking for work. bill: because they have more confidence, do you agree with that? >> yes i do agree with that, however, what you still got participation rate that ticked up a tiny fraction but which remains at historic generational lows. state of the labor market is disa

"varney and company" is about to begin. to the big story, the president's approval rating has hit a new all-time low for the nbc wall street journal poll. look at that. 40% now approve of the job the president is doing. the other side of the colon is the flip side 54% disapproval. wall street journal editorial board member mary kissel is here. let's extrapolate from this, look at -- i won't speculate but let's look forward. is it possible we i that kind of low dismal approval rating the republicans' sweep in november? >> republicans and the economy and foreign affairs, if they can sweep in november with 2% growth rates and global discord i don't know when they are going to sweep. i give you the names we are looking at, montana, west virginia, open seats for the gop, excellent chance, red states where mitt romney did well. arkansas, louisiana, north carolina, two state people may not be looking at, iowa and colorado seem to be in play. these are competitive races. there are a lot of moving parts, we have several months ago.

stuart varney. most of the varney and company. stuart, that is an astounding reality in the youths america. >> reporter: i have two reports that shows what america has become. as you pointed out. 110 million people receive something from the government because of low income or special needs, food, medical ware, housing or eating subsidy. there has been a steady, strong growth in welfare during the obama years. there is a shift towards well fair in those years. item number two. the report from pew. they asked are you middle class or upper class. 2008 within 72% said upper class, middle class. 2014, 57% said middle class. that is a huge decline in the number of people who think i'm a middle american. that's a significant shift. it's obviously occurred because of the great recession and the rather weak recovery. it also occurred because we shift the nature of american society toward a welfare society along european lines. it's a big shift. martha: it's a huge shift. the programs were designed 50 years ago, many of them, to help peopl

"varney and company" is about to begin. stuart: let's begin with an eye opening look at the obama economy. more numbers, this is a reuters survey. 34% of unemployed people have stopped looking for work because the job market was so bad. 40% were no more optimistic about their job search today than when they initially stopped working. this is middle america. it is losing ground. middle america getting shrink. charles: people who were pretty good contributors to the overall economy. the 20 plus week unemployment number will look at, that number has been over 3,000,004 longtime. these are people who had jobs, worked in at factory, an assembly line, huge money, huge income, they will eventually get back to the job market and work at a job where they make significantly less like most of these people, and i throw my hands out so what does this mean? stuart: does the economy come back into focus? charles: there is no way anything could be -- income inequality, higher minimum wage, michael brown thing, ferguson might be. every coup

stuart varney, good morning to you. what is going on. this money isn stolen. this is lost as in not accounted for. six years ago the government set up a website. this is where you go to to find out who spent what. this is the government's attempt to be entrance parents. go to -- to be transparent. unfortunately what the agency spent and what the website says they spent do not match up to the tune of $619 billion. there is a mismatch. 100 assistance' programs spending $5 billion a year don't show up on the website. there was a fore matting problems between the agency that spent the money and the office that reported it. the office of drug control did not report to the website, they thought another agency was going to report the money. there is a mismatch between the agency that spend the money and the agency that reports it. bill: department of interior did not report spending for 163 of 265 programs. you referred to this. the white house failed to report any of the programs it's directly responsible for. >> the government says they are trying to improve and th
