name is john vaughan, i'm from harris corporation. we're delighted a sponsor again this year of san francisco fleet week. our focus, if you had an opportunity to see on the way in the demonstration, is on interoperatability. this has been a challenge as lts general just mentioned. in the past we have been blocked in interoperatability by the use of different frequencies, by the use of different digital formats and been challenged in a number of different ways. i guess since those days there has been one important improvement, one technological improvement, that we use expensively to create interoperatability and that is ip networks built of sdparate systems and the network allows us to operate. as you see from our demonstration as you checked in this morning, as you ridge stered this morning, san francisco talking it oakland, talking to this ship, talking over cellular, talking across and with different networks. the challenge for interoperatability is beginning to be met, i would say, the challenge for interoperatability at the same

vaughan yee with sustainable streets. as you recall, you approved the enforce. of sunday parking meters as part of the last two-year budget cycle with the target date of implementation by january 6 of 2013. * so, i'm here to give you a brief update on where we are status wise on that process. basically we've taken two tracks to accomplish that goal, target date. the first is that we are focusing on the communications to try to achieve some widespread awareness of this significant policy change, and to raise awareness of the new metering hours before this target date, we are doing -- we are having -- we'll be having parking control officers to distribute fliers on cars in december as part of their regular duties. we're placing advertisements on muni bus exteriors, half page ads in the various newspapers and the customer service center. we are including book slip notices in fast track quarterly summaries and also the sfmta rpp program, renewal notices. we're using the existing meters by the plate inside the dome as well as stickers, decals on the meter face itself

vaughan yee from stainable streets. let me address the sixth street toll item first. that was as you remember, a pilot project that the board approved on october 17th, 2011 as part of a pedestrian safety enhancement program that we were undertaking. as you know, sixth street in this corridor, is very noted for -- it's higher than average pedestrian and collision accident history. so, the proposal was to test pilot a removal of the tow-away on the east side of the street for the blocks from folsom to market to allow parking there during the peak. and it had several benefits. one is that it physically narrows the street a little bit to allow a shorter crossing distance for the pedestrians crossing sixth street. it provides a very useful and beneficial buffer between moving vehicles and pedestrians on the sidewalk. and if successful, this space will allow us in the future to construct corner intersection [speaker not understood] or bicycle parking and [speaker not understood] and other amenities in that space. we've also made concurrently other improvements on the east-w
