i do now want to go to vaughn hilliard. vaughn, you're in arizona. the democrats had been putting a lot of effort and resources into arizona thinking that is a state they can turn blue. but trump campaign sources say it's also -- vaughn, there you are -- it's also a state they now believe they have closed the gap on. they're confident about arizona. what are the campaigns telling you? >> reporter: i'm talking to both sides here, both political parties, top officials here. what you're looking at right now is purely a look at the data. so far today, in-person voting, right now republicans hold about a 2.5 to 1 advantage over democrats, which is exactly what republicans in the trump campaign needed in the state. because democrats far outpaced republicans when it came to early votes before today. you are looking at margins in which the republicans were relying to remain competitive, turning people out to vote. this is one of the quieter voting centers. anybody can go to any center. i was just down the road just this hour over in old town scottsdale, katy

let's go to vaughn hilliard who has been keeping a close eye on all that is arizona for us. he joins us now. what are you hearing there? the are you surprised? the poll numbers say they're tightening up. >> yeah, this race was shown to be 10 or 11 points to mark kelly's change. we should remind everybody go back to 2018. she lost by 2.5 percentage points in that praise and she is trying to the no give up the second u.s. senate seat here in arizona to another california. she is flying around the state today. when you look at martha mcsally's numbers, you have to look at donald trump's numbers. joe biden here has a six-point edge and i this i it is important here with 48 hours until tuesday what does this data tell us? that is the fact that they have lost support among independent voters. there are indicator that's not just this week from fpolling numbers, but dating back to march. the question is on election day what extent can republican that's didn't show up come out and change this in is where attention it for democrats. there is a two-hour time difference. so arizona will

corey sanders, and vaughn hilliard. chris, since we have been on the pennsylvania road already, let's stay there. what are you seeing, you're not associated with a campaign or covering either one of them. what are you seeing on the ground from pennsylvania voters and where things stand today? >> it is all about the get out the vote. like the rest of the campaign, katie, the two sides could not be doing it more differently. neighboring lucerne, they are sort of iconic about why we saw hillary clinton lose all of these union members. white, noncollege educated men and turn this race in 2016 to trump. the democrats trying hard to turn that around. take a look at what is going on in here. they have been doing a lot of phone banking from here. they think they have done everything they could possibly do. they have union folks out going door to door today. today they will go into the night to make sure those people who have not yet turned in that ballot or made a plan to go to the polls will do that. joining me is someone that

vaughn hilliard standing by in scotssdale in his home state of arizona to talk about this long days journey and tonight after night after night. hey, vaughn? >> we can call this election night number ten. and the 11 electoral votes in arizona will be going to joe biden with just about 11,000 votes left to be counted here in the state. joe biden holds a lead about 11,400 votes. and when you're looking at this map here you've got to put it into perspective about what this message was sent by arizona voters to, what this republican party has come. when you look at maricopa county 89,000 votes shifted away from donald trump to joe biden. back in 2016 trump won this state by 91,000 votes. so when you look at maricopa county alone you saw donald trump win it in these greater phoenix suburbs in 2016. four years later, again, i'm going to repeat that 89,000 votes shifting towards joe biden. you could essentially say this is a push back of what this republican party under donald trump has become. you know, this is state where barry goldwater breathes conservatism into this party. sarah day o'connor,

vaughn hilliard thank you for that.now to nevada where less than 12,000 votes separate the candidates. there's a lot of votes out in clark county. a politics reporter for the nevada independent. when can we expect more vote tows from nevada? what can you tell us where they might come from? >> we're looking right now about 190,000 outstanding ballots across nevada. 90% of those are from clark county, and a lot of those are mail ballots. that's what we're expecting to get tomorrow morning at 9:00 a.m. clark county election officials have told us today that they are counting 51,000 ballots. those are going to be mail ballots. and if it's anything like what we saw today, we saw a small number of mail ballots come back from clark. only about 14,000. but those votes broke 2-1 for joe biden. so we're expecting to see some big movement in those numbers that come in tomorrow morning. >> just for folks tracking this with the various categories overlay them. as we were talking about pennsylvania you've got areas that are more or l

to my colleague vaughn hilliard joining us from scottsdale.re officials responding to the lawsuits this hour? >> reporter: there's one lawsuit that's been filed here in the state of arizona. it wasn't filed until late yesterday afternoon. we should note six hours after our network and other news organizations called the presidency for joe biden. that of the big question in the state of aides. and -- of arizona. and i asked myself, a trump ally and arizona gop chairwoman kelly ward late thursday if there's any evidence that concerned them that could leasd to litigation. there was no evidence or now suggestions of any concern were lifted up until yesterday, six hours, again, after the presidency was called. the lawsuit that was filed by the trump campaign in the arizona republican party here in arizona was on the part of two particular voters who said on the electronic voting machine on election day they had to push a button that essentially overrided their vote because they double voted on a particular race. i was just talking with a lawyer who

latest arizona polling average, joe biden is leading president trump by about 4 points nbc's vaughn hilliard is joining us good morning >> reporter: phillip, there are 40 hours left until polls close in the state of arizona. when folks are looking at the political map, arizona could be the state that clinches it florida, north carolina, pennsylvania, georgia but later in the evening when the polls close in arizona, we may know up to 90% of the results there on election night the biden campaign is looking at this state with optimism they have seen consistent results in arizona donald trump won here four years ago. in 2016 he won the state by 3.5 percentage points. those numbers have only declined over the last several years putting the trump campaign in a tough position there are no more campaign stops so it's up to the organizers to get folks to turn in their ballots. in maricopa county, already the number of returned early ballots exceeds all of the ballots sent in in the county in 2016 combined phillip. >> sounds like a similar story throughout the country vaughn, thank you. >>> in north c

let's go to vaughn hilliard who has been standing by for us for what feels like an eternity. are 221,000 ballots left. what are they and is there a time line for when the counting will be finished? >> i think the 1:00 a.m. hour and the 2:00 am hour there is about 60,000 votes let's see what those will look reich. donald trump would have to hit essentially 59% of the share of those votes. what happened this morning. that is big, because that batch of ballots will look. and it is expecting to look like a remaining 140,000 ballots here. we should expect them to hit that threshold mark there. that case is nearly insurmountab insurmountable. so far even in some more republican leaning counties, he has not come close to hitting that 75% mark. so the mathematics become very difficult. the next batch is expected at 9:00 p.m. eastern tonight. >> thank you, vaughn. joining me now is katie hobbs. there is 220,000 ballot that's are out there. vaughn gave us a 9:00 p.m. update. how many ballots will we see at 9:00 p.m. will we get the bulk or will it extend into the weekend? >> i think it

let's get a look at vaughn hilliard who's out in chandler, arizona. hn, arizona is a state democrats are still quite hopeful for. they feel positive about what they are seeing out there. tell me what you're seeing on the ground, especially in maricopa county. >> reporter: yeah, good evening, katie and ayman. we're still waiting for more ballots, about 130,000 votes that will be registered into the system here. this evening out of maricopa county specifically, when you look at where this race currently stands you see that eight-point margin here. yet at the same time there are still thousands, hundreds of thousands of outstanding votes here in the state of arizona. number one, the biggest unknown is how many early ballots were hand-delivered to polling locations today. elections officials tell me that they do not have that number, that they will report that number back to me tomorrow. again, that particularly is of concern for democrats out in the rural part of the state. you know, just this last week i was up in mojave county. this is a county that app

our correspondent vaughn hilliard standing by in scotsdale, arizona, tonight.on the up side i think people learn a lot about our geography in this coverage. just looking for flailings reasons why this is all a good thing. the other thing is people learn a lot about how elections work, and sadly election law. and various -- how votes are different. so you're awaiting another tronch, another bucket of votes out there. which vote would this be? >> reporter: to your first part it's been fun to introduce different people to arizona for the last several days, and the reality is maricopa county still makes up about 60% of the leck tort in the state and that's why we've continued to so heavily here in arizona focus on these numbers. what about these next buckets of votes? there are still about 300,000 ballots across the state of arizona outstanding. 200,000 of those are right here in maricopa county. and now the results set to be release tomorrow morning we're expecting about 75,000 more results to be announced tomorrow morning here in maricopa county. those numbers sh

vaughn hilliard, our correspondent standing by in scottsdale. ghn. >> reporter: hey, good evening, brian. there are 600,000, about 600,000 uncounted ballots here in the state of arizona. and when you look at the margin right now, joe biden holds just a lead of about 93,000 votes, which is about 3.4 percentage points. and if you're looking at this last batch of -- about those 600,000 votes here and you do a little scratch math on a piece of paper, you're going to come out to the reality that donald trump has to pull off about 60% of the vote among this last batch. we are expecting these initial results to come out of maricopa county just in about an hour and a half from now. how many are we going to get? the county isn't quite telling us right now. this could come down to tonight. let's say, you know, ballots go out in joe biden's favor. there's a potential that that is what the democrats are looking for. but when you're talking to this trump campaign, they see these numbers -- they're hoping these numbers reflect what they saw in in-person voters
