back with us now is nbc's vaughn hillyard and vaughn. a lot of news this morning.e know about these remarks? >> we know very little other than they were not originally on the books. we are expected to hear from him in the oval office in about five minutes from now. it is not clear whether he intends to sign additional executive orders, but this remarks, these remarks are going to come off of the new jobs report here from its first month in office that showed the hiring here in the united states is cooling. just 10,000 federal jobs were marked as being lost in this report, which would indicate the next jobs report will most likely include the greater 24 hours after his own administration rolled back a series of tariffs related to goods between canada and mexico that were a part of the usmca trade agreement that his first administration signed. we watched the stock market over the course of the last days drop. we have watched commodity prices drop here. this is all in reaction to the economic and tariff policies implemented by this administration. we have seen the li

joining us now, nbc's vaughn hillyard at the white house and nbc's christine romans. vaughn, we'll start with you. what do we know about these remarks? you got to imagine the white house is going to be trumpeting something in this jobs report, right? >> we actually don't know the basis of these remarks. they were not on the book until about 20 minutes ago here. so we expect any moment the cameras from the pool to be allowed inside of the oval office. we will not be getting that in real time, but we'll be passing notes along as they come out from there. we'll then have the video a few minutes after that camera leaves the oval office here. of course, this comes just hours after this jobs report, which shows hiring in the united states cooling. this is a moment here for president trump, where his direct economic policies and tariff implementation have hurt not only the stock market, but also commodities prices and caused forecasts for economic growth to slow. this for the trump administration has been a clear cut decision and an understanding that there are going to be co

nbc's vaughn hillyard is following that story for us. what exactly is rfk jr saying now? >> right. there is pressure on the health and human services department under secretary robert f kennedy jr. over the course of the last month, at least 146 children, mostly unvaccinated children in west texas, have contracted the measles. this outbreak has led to a push publicly to have children be vaccinated for the mmr vaccine. and that went as far as last night in an op ed. the secretary kennedy himself penning a declarative statement urging parents to seriously look at and vaccinate their children with the mmr vaccine, writing in part that, quote, parents play a pivotal role in safeguarding their children's health. all parents should consult with their health care providers to understand their options to get the mmr vaccine. the decision to vaccinate is a personal one. vaccines not only protect individual children from measles, but also contribute to community immunity, protecting those who are unable to be vaccinated due to medical reasons. now, just four years ago, it was robert f kenned

joining me to discuss this from the white house is nbc news correspondent vaughn hillyard. hn, thanks for beinge. tell us which countries would be affected by the new ban and when we might expect it to be implemented? >> right. >> we're expecting here within the next week or two, as soon as the next couple of days. this expanded travel ban to be implemented. it was on inauguration day that president trump signed an executive order ordering multiple agencies to prepare a list of proposed countries to be included on this travel ban within 60 days, which would lead us here to the middle of march. and now, as part of this, this echoes, we expect what he promised on the campaign trail was to reinstate the travel ban that the supreme court had upheld in a 5 to 4 decision back in 2018, which barred individuals from five muslim majority countries those countries being iran, libya, somalia, syria and yemen, along with north korea and venezuela from being admitted into the united states again, the supreme court upheld that ban back in 2018, but now the expectation is from nbc news rep

we'll start this hour with nbc's vaughn hillyard at the white house. vaughn, the president has expressed his approval for the gop proposed spending bill. but is that enough to get it passed and avoid a shutdown? >> right? the spending bill is more than a one month continuing resolution. it actually would go to the end of september, essentially giving republicans, if it were to pass some more wiggle room and some time to work towards their big major reconciliation package, which of course includes the tax cut extensions that they are seeking to include, as well as major immigration spending. and so for this government spending bill, look, the government's money runs out come the end of this friday here. and republicans, if you just take the us house, if every democrat were to vote against the stopgap spending measure, republicans could only afford to lose one of their members. and thomas massie has already indicated that he is going to be one. the question is, is there a second republican that would hold this up in the house and then in the senate? they'
