"velshi" starts now. good morning. it is saturday, november 27th. i'm ali velshi. new covid variant is causing global alarm as countries enact travel restrictions in the attempt to contain the latest coronavirus threat. the w.h.o. classified the omicron as a highly transmissible virus of concern. that includes the delta that it includes to drive up the hospitalizations and deaths in europe and u.s. many mutations found within the omicron variant are linked to increased antibody resistance which affects how the virus behaves. scientists in south africa first discovered it was driving a spike in cases there on thursday. so far, omicron has been detected in belgium, botswana, hong kong and israel. the u.s. is moving to restrict travel from south africa and several other countries in the region, including botswana, mozambique and zimbabwe and eswatini. those restrictions will go into effect on monday for non-u.s. citizens. dr. fauci joined peter alexander and kristen welker on "weekend today" to discuss the omicron variant. fauci says there are no cases identified in t

i'm into for ali velshi. the house select committee investigating the january 6 attack just got more powerful thanks to the justice department. a federal grand jury has indicted steve bannon on two counts of contempt of congress. the indictment stems from bannon's refusal to comply with subpoenas from the committee investigating the january 6 xpe himself over to law enforcement monday and scheduled to appear in court that afternoon. he now faces up to one year in prison and $100,000 fine if convicted. chair than bennie thompson and liz cheney issued this statement reading that the indictment should send a clear message to anyone who thinks that they can ignore the select committee or try to stone wall our investigation. no one is above the law. bannon has a lot of information that committee would find useful. here is a reminder of why the january 6 committee is so interested in talking to him. investigators have pointed to a conversation bannon had with trump on december 30th where bannon reportedly urged him

i'm ali velshi.ams around the world are on high alert amid growing concern of the new strain of the coronavirus. the world health organization has named it omicron and classified it as a variant of concern. omicron was first reported to the world health organization by south africa where the new variant, quote, appears to be increasing in almost all provinces. fears of another deadly wave of the coronavirus has forced some countries to act swiftly on friday. several nations including japan, canada and the united kingdom announced travel restrictions for people coming from the southern region of africa. the biden administration decided to do the same. beginning monday november 29th the united states will restrict travel from botswana, eswatini, former swaziland and mozambique, namibia and zimbabwe. belgium, israel and hong kong have had one case of the omicron variant within their borders and you know there is never just one. no cases have been identified in the u.s. to date. we expect omicron to be i

"velshi" starts now. of. >>> good morning. it's sunday, november the 28th. i'm ali velshi. a new rapidly spreading variant of covid-19 is reminding the nation that this pandemic isn't over. 13 new cases of the omnicron variant now being confirmed in the netherlands this morning. that spike is connected to two flights that came in from south africa on friday, and that's in addition to detections in italy, austria, belgium, germany, australia, israel, hong kong, the united kidnapping come, and of course, south africa, where the variant was first identified on thursday. the czech republic is investigating suspected cases now. and starting tomorrow, the united states will join a number of other nations in restricting travel for non-citizens coming from several countries in southern africa, including botswana, zimbabwe, botswana and others. both pfizer and biontech say they expect to be able to ship out new vaccines tailored to fight off the new omnicron variant in about 100 days, if necessary. moderna says it's already considering doubling the dose of its current vaccine booste

i'm ali velshi. the bipartisan infrastructure bill has been signed into law by president biden and congressional democrats are optimistic about passing the build back better spending package before the end of the year. after passing the house entirely along party lines on friday, the transformative legislation is now headed to the senate for review this week, but it still has a difficult road ahead. its passage in the senate is not guaranteed. it will need all 50 democratic votes, and if it does pass, it might come out looking very different, based on the mercurial moods of joe manchin and kyrsten sinema, but at least it's moving. however, another crucial piece of the biden agenda, the agenda of anyone who cherishes democracy, by the way, has largely stalled, and i think it's voting rights. "the washington post" reports that kyrsten sinema, quote, remains firmly opposed to changing federal election laws on a partisan basis, signaling that a planned last-ditch voting rights push that party leaders and

velshi starts now. good morning. it is saturday, november 20th. i'm ali velshi. police in portland, oregon declared a riot when a crowd gathered to protest kyle rittenhouse's acquittal. protests also in brooklyn outside barkley center, and outside the courthouse in kenosha. the nation is bracing for more potential unrest. after deliberations, the jury found kyle rittenhouse not guilty on all five charges he faced for fatally shooting two and injuring a third during anti-racism protests in wisconsin. parents of one of the men killed by rittenhouse released a statement reading today's verdict means there is no accountability for the person who murdered our son. it sends the unacceptable message that armed civilians can show up in any town, incite violence, and then use the danger they have created to justify shooting people in the street. justin blake, the uncle of jacob blake, who was left paralyzed after the kenosha police shot him in the back several times igniting a wave of protests against police brutality had this to say about rittenhouse's claims he acted in
