verizon earnings coming in. revenues matching thanks to increased wireless and broadband connections and big news out of google. tech company is reportedly planning to become a wireless carrier, launching low-cost mobile phone plans using sprint and t-mobile networks. gra sow? >> well, verizon missed on profits, because of pricing pressures. i think the bigger story here sb though, is on the telecoms, t-mobile sets up technically the best. that's the one i'm currently long. if you look at google, that's the bigger story. it's been in the headlines from everything, from spacex to a wireless provider. i think that's the true play here. i think you'll pick sprint or t-mobile and t-mobile looks a heck of a lot better than sprint. i would say that that is not the play. that they're -- it's almost like -- i don't want to say death by a thousand paper cuts, but they're spending little bits here and little bits there. yes, they can afford it -- >> everyone talks about them being as search provider as a one-trim pony. they're trying to dabble in a bunch of different things -- >> they're trying to subsidize wireless data

we finally got the results of what was spent by the key wireless companies in the country. namely at&t verizon, t mobile and as well dish. the numbers themselves are about 18 plus billion dollars for at&t. about $10.4 billion, there it is for verizon. dish net's affiliates, and this gets confusing. they actually bid $13 billion, but they did so through designated entities which will allow them to buy at a discount. it's a strategy we've seen used in the past for example, by mahero gabelli at various spectrum auctions. what is going to be spent by dish is roughly $10 billion for spectrum that was worth, let's call it $13 billion. all of this adds up to roughly 44.9. when this began there was an expectation that at&t and verizon would be at a similar number. that is clearly not the case. at&t though many had felt had at least given the sense, even though they haven't said anything, that they might be at this number. we know they've been large borrowing last week for example. verizon does come in below. dish many follow the company closely, was expected to spend perhaps quite this much. perhaps i

wireless devices, wi-fi is available. if you can integrate all those wi-fis and make them available, you would have an alternate wide area of coverage. wouldn't be available everywhere but then the verizons and at&ts are not available everywhere, and that could be a much lower cost system than exists today. it would have advantage and disadvantages, but existing carriers would have some competition. now they've got some motivation to use this other technology, get their prices down and that has got to happen. wireless broadband is just too costly today and if there is a spectrum problem, that is where it is. there are some of the new services that are arising that are being served by wireless main my in education, in medicine, that are essential services. they're not conveniences, not things that make our lives smoother but they are as an example in education we have now determined that people who are challenged more than others actually have their brains grow faster. we have some new techniques that are internet-enabled that challenge students much more effectively than lectures and classrooms do. now, could you major a world in the future where we have one class of people who have inte
