windchill factors were -30 in vermont.off the day down the street from the state house in a church. we had a people state of the state address, a speak out or the health care is a human right campaign was trying by folks from immigrant right organizations, climate justice organizations, disability rights organizations, unions -- incredibly broad range of folks to talk about a vision forward which including or focusing on universal health care, but how that is also connected to all of our human rights and having the kind of democracy and economy that works for all the people. then we marched down to the state house through these cold temperatures and ended up packing the state house for the state of the state address singing and ended up being there, basically, for many hours throughout the day. >> james, what about the governor's claim that the taxes required to be raised would be too onerous for the citizens of vermont in terms of limiting single-payer? >> something like 11% on payroll, 9% on income tax. >> they just rele

so if you take vermont as an example when we talk about crumbling infrastructure, you can say vermont doesn't have that many people so why does it really matter with the nation's economy? well, it matters not only to vermonter's quality of life, but we happen as an example and many other states are in the same boat bordering canada and we're the transportation conduit to our biggest trading partner in america, canada. we projections going forward are that in the next three decades we'll see our freight transportation increase by 50% and we have a crumbling infrastructure right now. so in terms of jobs and prosperity, the rural states actually carry a bigger burden because we've got more to maintain and we all know that that infrastructure is crumbling and it's got to be rebuilt. so i just want to make the point that when you look at this challenge of reauthorizing the transportation trust fund it's important to remember that the rural states really have a special burden. now the northeast states have an increased burden as well just simply because of climate, and if you look at what w

further to the north, the big story tonight going into monday vermont, new hampshire into maine. conditions as the frontal system will sweep through on the back side of that. you've got enough cold air, you'll see snowfall. generally speaking between four and six inches perhaps in northern sections of vermont and new hampshire. want to show you some more pictures of the devastating road conditions because of the ice on the highways. this out of the philadelphia area. you see all of the cars and the suvs as well as major trucks that were colliding across the region with the hazardous conditions. doesn't take much ice for this kind of event to take place. fredricka, because we are watching the temperatures warm up here, now we're seeing the rainfall. a couple of inches, but now that involves 20 million people. and it's going to be as treacherous as some of the ice is because as you go through the evening hours, that rainfall will collect on the roads. and you can see quite a bit of ponding and localized flooding across the region. all the way from new jersey into connecticut, penns
