vernon odom is live in wilmington.ith the latest on this very sad story. >> reporter: good evening rick. the entire wilmington community is in deep shock and mourning tonight because of this tragic event here. a homeowner on this block died in a raging rowhouse fire trying to rescue his wife. not knowing she had already escaped. firefighters spent this day combing through the debris in the scorched rowhouse of 37th street searching for the cause of the devastating fire. this is the home of 65-year-old archie monroe and his wife, donna. the fire department got the call at 11:30, a huge blaze in this residential home on the 3100 block of 37th. donna monroe was trapped upstairs and climbed on the roof and there she jumped to safety and neighbors caught her. she remains in critical condition tonight and the husband in all the chaos and flames did not realize she was out safely and he charged back into the house to try to save her and the fire consumed him. >> tham shows the character of a person and he gets out a fire and

"action news" reporter vernon odom talked to carpenter's family when he was still on the run. joins us live from the police department with more. >> reporter: vernon. >> reporter: rick, the police here in phoenixville had been confident that the suspect had not fled the area that he was somewhere "in the philadelphia region." i did talk with the suspect's family earlier today and they expressed sympathy for the family of the victim as they've lived out this nightmare. tonight this man, 21-year-old keon carpenter of phoenixville remains at lamp and wanted for the murder of this phoenixville resident 20-year-old joshua mitchell. they knew each other. police say it happened at 9:45 on bridge street. witnesses saw the two men arguing then heard two gunshots. later outside a nearby church police found what they believe is the handgun used in the murder. this mitchell family friend say this is the second tragedy to befall this family. >> this is the second shouldn't got killed. the first got killed in pottstown. >> reporter: police have not reached a motive on the killing but their
