vice president, and thank you, fellow commissioner veronese. i ask that this item be put on the agenda because now that we are televised, i think we need to take advantage of every opportunity available to educate the public, our fellow citizens, as to how the members of the department do their job. and that way there is less chance of confusion going forward. there was no confusion among the ranks of firefighters and the leaders of the department during the most recent four-alarm fire. everything went as it should have gone. there was no loss of life. everyone was able to return home for those people who were not displaced on that evening. i think it is really incumbent upon all of us to understand that there is a very classic system of how to fight a fire. it is not something that people develop on the fire ground. this is drilled over and over again. people know what they're doing. they know what their roles are. they know who their fellow fire combatants are. it is for those reasons and others, it is a noble profession being a firefighter.

commissioner veronese, you have a comment. commissioner hardeman, at this point, i just wanted to report to you, colleagues, that on march 20, we have a meeting with the guardians of the city to follow up on the presentations and the guardian did at this last commission meeting. and we had chief rivera attend and captain sorano as well. we had director corso, myself, from guardians of the city we had three members. and four items and one as improvement of communication and coordination because of the recent towing of the antique rigs to t.i. as well as the wrap of the antique rigs in terms of security as well as preservation. the other item that we talked about was the request from the commission and the department for a reimbursement for the cost of the towing and the wrap of the antique rigs that was voted down by the guardians of the city at their meeting with a memo to us on march 11. at that meeting i asked that if the representatives through james lee take back the request of the department back to the board of directors

. >> adam secretary please note commissioner veronese has joined us. >> this is my report since the last meeting on february 14th. as you know, thank you president cleaveland for cosigning the letter with me. we submitted the budget on february 21st. i appreciate the efforts and support of the commission. we were asking for 2.5% reduction in the 2018-2019 fiscal year. we were not able to meet that given a whole host of issues including increasing call volume and expenses to provide the service on a daily basis. we submitted the additional fte as directed for a grant writer. we look forward to continuing to engage in discussions with mayor's budget overs. he needs to sub met the budget by june 1st. there will be back and forth discussions. i want to let you know on march 8th at 3:00 p.m. we have a time slot for members of our department including the budget committee to meet with the mayor's budget director before she goes out on leave and the invitation is open for any two of the commissioners that you deem appropriate to attend and participate in as well. that again is march 8th at 3:00

commissioner veronese. >> same line the questioning, does the fire department discuss with those developers impact, or is there a recoup ration on the impact to the department outside of the water supply? for example, if you open up an entirely new neighborhood that doesn't currently have a fire station or if it does, it's underrer served, does development agreements anticipate the cost to the department as those new neighborhoods move in? >> yes. for visitation valley, there is a fire station coul contemplates well in the hunters point area as well. we've been been successful as this nexus tax, if you will, or some sort of parcel that has been done through mta. so we envision these are going to be really well-built in terms of fire protection systems, but certainly just added population, we will anticipate an increase definitely in our call volume for medical calls. i would like to see something along those lines, but certainly when it comes to our budget in terms of staffing, those stations are contemplated. i would like to have robust discussions related to the impacts to the department.
