so before they could finalize veronica's adoption, a family court judge ruled in favor of veronica's designed to protect the interest of indian children and keep indian children with indian family members. congress took action after a 1976 study showed about thirty persh of indian children were being removed from their homes and of those, about 90% were being placed with non-indian families. the attorney general for the cherokee nation told us the law is working. >> one of the original authors of the indian child welfare act said his indent of this law was not to take adoptive children away from loving homes. how would you respond to that? >> it's not anyone's intent to rip a child away from a loving home. we want to make sure those loving homes have the opportunity to be indian homes first. you look at the welfare of the child and if at all possible, we want that child to be raised in a traditional indian family. >> reporter: that logic is lost on veronica's adoptive parents. >> this law has been used unjustly, to the detriment. >> the indian child welfare act is destroying families

hey, veronica. >> hey, guys. it's going to be a much, much weaker system. it has to do with some things to the north that have to meet up with it but take a look at how big this system is. it's covering colorado still with a lot of snow. denver, colorado getting between 9 and 10 inches of snow. locations just west of there a lot of spots over 30 inches of snow. but that 9 to 10 could wind up being one of denver, colorado's biggest storms for the month of february. black hawk, colorado by the way, 48 inches now on the ground. so the storm expanding right now. that snow up into nebraska right now, down to the south, in kansas and oklahoma. you got severe storms believe it or not. that's where the mild air is. so kind of a clash of two seasons still going on. off to the east, we are still dry. but again, that storm system is advancing this way. we'll talk about the details and how it's going to pass right near our area and what it could be providing for our weekend weather. i'll give you the timing on that coming up. right now we're at 51 degrees with a light
