where veronica? >> the weather having a big impact inside the district, prince george's county fairfax county now the heaviest rain moving through areas of prince george's county and down through the southern part of the beltway, as you head down i-95. let me show you what i'm talking about, a couple of clusters with thunderstorms, yes, you can see the lightning that i put on here, fairfax right down through prince george's county and also present toward st. mary's and calvert county then we have got two other clusters, one back here, warren and shenandoah county, another farther south areas of charlottesville, all headed south southeast, very slowly, around five to ten miles per hour. slow movement of these storms producing flooding on area roads, certainly bond ponding, flash flooding continues for western fairfax county, prince george's county until 6:45 a while longer. i think this maybe the next area that may go under a severe thunderstorm warning or flash flood warning. that would be areas of e

let's get to veronica de la cruz with the latest. >> reporter: three people are dead tonight including the gunman. seven others wounded. police say the gunman took his own life. the only details are he is a 58- year-old white male. the shooting happened just after 5:00 our time at the grand theater 16. the gunman entered a showing of the comedy trainwreck. about 20 minutes into the movie, he stood up in the back and began to shoot. there were about 100 people inside at the time and the scene was chaotic. >> four officers entered the theater to engage the shooter. they heard shots being fired upon their arrival. >> one woman was shot in the leg. she was able to get out. i guess she went to the front of the theater. >> my daughter was in the same theater and the same row as the shooter. so she came running home. >> reporter: police say the shooter used a handgun and acted alone. seven people were wounded. the louisiana governor bobby. amy schumer says my heart is broken and all my thoughts and prayers are with everyone in louisiana. this is the second movie theater shooting in three year

veronica johnson in the storm center. >> with the latest on our sticky summer pattern. for sure this very long stretch of heat, this wave of heat is continuing. today 94 degrees. and for several hours that heat index reading 101 to 103. this is day five, if you're counting. consecutively of days open for 90 degrees or higher. i'm forecasting several more. in fact, it's going to get worse before it gets better. higher heat, higher humidity right now. 86 degrees your temperature. and yes, the storms have quieted down across the area quite a bit. but, again it is going to be going way up those temperatures and the humidity, even forecasting some strong potentially severe storms. i'll show you where they're going to set up when they're going to set up across our area. and when i think that we're going to finally see this wave of heat break. >> thanks, veronica. >>> right now, doctors are tending to eight children who were under a tree when it came crash down in california tonight. three of those children are in critical condition right now. the kids were just being released

police have been digging into his past and veronica, there were some warning signs weren't there? >> reporter: there were. online posting suggested john houser was angry about social changes in the country. the southern poverty center said he praised adolf hitler for accomplishing more than any other and called america a failing filth farm. he encouraged others to realize the power of the lone wolf. investigators say the 59-year- old apparently acted alone when he carried out his own attack. there were other warnings. in 2008, his family filed a petition for a protective order citing his history of mental health issues, manic depression and or di polar disorder. his wife removed tall guns from his house and he should not have one unless he obtained it illegally. houser was voluntarily committed to a hospital as well. then in 2014, houser lost his home to foreclosure. the current owner says houser trashed the place. he showed reporters these pictures. >> hey booby trapped it. he set the gas line on fire. >> investigators say houser legally purchased the handgun at an alabama pawnsh

veronica de la cruz shows us what washed ashore. >> reporter: that's right. a man cleaning the beach says he found what appears to be a suitcase. here it is. you can see it is ripped to shreds but it is still zipped. there's a lot of speculation it came from the missing plane. so far, there is no confirmation of that. but the bag is part of the investigation. the worker found the suitcase near where a six foot long piece of a plane washed up. sources tell cbs news that the debris is from a boeing triple 7. it is part of a flaperon. it will be taken to france for more analysis including examining the barnacles to see if it resembles something submerged 500 days. >> this is a significant development. it is the first real evidence that there is a possibility that a part of the aircraft may have been found. >> the flaperon is part of the wing that helps control the aircraft's speed on landing. it was discovered on reunion island, 2300 miles west of the current search zone in the indian ocean. debris could have floated that far pulled by ocean currents and the dis

let's get to veronica de la cruz with details on the wragg fire. >> reporter: the fire was containedt then flared up again today. in the last hour or two, we learned crews have managed to make some pretty good progress and now, the flames are not spreading. the fire southwest of lake baryessa has burned 7,000 acres. police were going door to door to make sure everyone got out. at one point, 136 buildings were threatened. but cal fire says everybody should be okay tonight with the triple digit heat tomorrow, firefighters say that the fire could flare up again. >> it is hard to tell. all it take one spot to get over the line. then it will be off to the races again. and we will start to hopefully reduce fire behavior as the evening comes on. >> we thought the fire was almost out. >> so did we. wasn't until we looked about noontime and saw the smoke and everything and realized it was getting worse. we are very concerned about it. >> and before that flare-up, cal fire had 80% of the fire contained. take a look at how quickly this flare-up spread. this time lance shows how the fire goes fr
