>>> first now at 4:00, storm team 4 meteorologist veronica johnson joins us. vj, a sudden burst of cold and good chance of snow for many. >> that's right. that sudden drop in temperatures comes after midnight. the big burst of snow off to the west. look, here's the current radar. so it's quiet right now. we don't have any issues at all. but in those counties shaded in pink, that is where there is a winter storm warning, starts at 3:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. tomorrow. 3 to 6 inches of snow likely. and that is where roads will become slippery. especially the secondary roads. and especially late tomorrow. of and that is why tomorrow's impact forecast is high, because of poor travel for some, and an icy wednesday night. what happens after that in a look at thanksgiving day, we've got that forecast coming to you in a few minutes. guys? >> a father in southwest texas is in anguish right now. he tried to save his six children from a fire in their home this morning. but he could only save one. i pushed his wife and 3-year-old out of a window and tried to go back to the

. >> i'm pat lawson muse in the weather center with storm team 4 meteorologist veronica johnson. veronica, this is what everybody wants to know. we're not going to get snow, but it's going to feel like the dead of winter? >> exactly. so the rain moving out, but we are really going to get blasted with our lowest temperatures we have seen since last february, talking some 20 to 25 degrees below average. and that's going to come with a biting wind that starts late tonight and runs through tomorrow. rain getting ready to move out. of course, it's been chilly and wet today. this is the last of it. you can still see wet weather around the beltway. not too heavy. prince george's county, anne arundel county and the west, snow high spots in west virginia starting to fade. temperatures not too bad currently. we're in the mid to upper 40s from leesburg to falls church, fairfax, camp springs and green belt around 46 to 48 degrees. but today in the 40s. by the time we get to tonight, late tonight, early tomorrow morning, temperatures will drop it all the way down into the teens. and in terms o

let's get the latest right now from meteorologist veronica johnson. how it is looking from your per inspect sniff. >> from my perspective, the flakes right now having a tough time hanging on. a lot of locations, d.c. on east. look at this. the temperature is 37. right now leesburg is 34 degrees. luray too. that is where there is snow. it has been sticking out west around areas of i-81 and around the plains. so snow moves out. we get the rain, clearing and with that clear skies. temperatures go boom down to around freezing many neighborhoods by tomorrow morning. with that is an impact forecast that is moderate for tomorrow. temperatures throughout the area, 20s and throw 30s. refreeze overnight with icy patches around the area. by the time we get to 9:00 a.m., 10:00 a.m., we're on the other side of the freezing mark. and with sunshine and headed to 40 degrees, we should be doing okay by the afternoon tomorrow. we have a lot more outside of this forecast and friday morning. that's all in a few minutes. guys? >> thank you. the snow is great news for ski

let's go to storm team 4 meteorologist veronica johnson in the storm center with your first foreca this tuesday. vj? guys, this is the kind of cold you really don want to be out outside in for long. you walk to your car, want to move as fast as you can. look how we started the day today. this only tells part of the story. temper in the 20s throughout the area, leesburg, get e this morning. reagan national airport started at 28. the record, 21. and tonight the readings, those temps even lower. good thing, though, the winds will start to ease off. last night our winds picked up right near 40 miles per hour. look at the winds today. they have been just over 30 but now wind dropping in locations like d.c. and leesburg over 30 now. again, falling. your wind chills currently in the teens to low 30s across the area. so, today those wind chills have been in the 20s by morning. we're back in the teens. but will we have a chance to come out of it by tomorrow afternoon? >>> a lawyer accused of stabbing two people will stay in jail. >> andrew small and his wife alicia arguing for bail today. his la

veronica johnson outside now in the storm center. and this is not only the coldest air so far this season, the coldest air since last season. >> exactly. going all the way back to march, which is kind of crazy. and why we want everyone to, of course, be prepared and being prepared means knowing, of course, you need your umbrella but also the warm winter gear for tomorrow. because wind chill temperatures are going to be pretty low throughout the day. high temperatures only getting up to around 42, 43 degrees. here is your feel-like temperature starting with this evening. and we'll advance it forward for you here to show what you can expect by 6:00 a.m. tomorrow morning. we're going to be close to freezing most neighborhoods. and that means, again, with the wind, the low temperatures, just a very uncomfortable day, despite the sunshine. 36 in leesburg. what it will feel like 10:00 a.m. manassas, warrenton, fairfax, arlington feeling like 39 to 40 degrees at 3:00 p.m. so really we say in the 30s throughout the day tomorrow. a little les

veronica johnson with more on that. >> storm team 4 already looking forward for you. we're looking all the way up in canada. in fact, we're looking all the way up in the polar region. where this very cold air setting up. modified as it hits the states around north dakota. temperatures in the 20s and 30s in this pocket right here. everyo everywhere north of the jet stream, that's where the colder air will and dropping south. day seven, next wednesday, it arrives here. our temperatures are several degrees below average. we could continue to see these cold waves move through part of november. >> that's what we're looking out for. even though we see things cool off. 65 on thursday, 55 on friday, we're not nearly as cold as next week. 57 on sunday, not a bad weekend right now. it does look like temperatures will be warmer than previously thought monday and tuesday. here's that big change. high temperatures next tuesday will only get to 46 degrees. some will stay in the low 40s, a week away. right now, the weekend not looking too bad. tomorrow, we've got the rain. >> thank

. >> let's go to storm team 4 meteorologist veronica johnson. how cold is it going to get, vj? >> a little colder than what we had to deal with overnight. yes, the arctic air has arrived, that air we have been tracking the last several days here now. and folks, there's another wave that's going to be moving in. take a look at the temperatures across the area. these are the lows from early this morning. we started out below freezing, sub freezing. so many neighborhoods. francon maryfield also just 32 degrees. 35 in d.c. poolsville at 34 to start. now we're trending toward more winter from 35 this morning to 31 degrees coming up tomorrow morning. meanwhile, you know, with the cold, we've got another storm system to talk about. we'll tell what you it could bring in just a couple minutes. >>> thanks, vj. we're tracking new developments from capitol hill where the keystone pipeline project took another big step forward today. the house just approved the project for the ninth time, and a senate vote is expected next week. notably, the house and senate bills are sponsored by lawmakers

let's turn to storm team 4 meteorologist veronica johnson for your first forecast. >> november is in december, and december winter going to stick around. that's right. right around the corner. meanwhile, today as jim and pat said, enjoy a nice afternoon. 72 degrees in college park inside the beltway where it's 70. folks around rockville and up to the north around gaithersburg, and even up around columbia, 70 degrees, the temperature. that's like an early october-type day. we get cool by 9:00. clouds start to build. we drop to 57. can't rule out a sprinkle late. but, boom, we go from 70 today into the mid 40s at the end of the week. and that cold will come with a little rain. i'll detail it for you. the timing in just a few minutes. >>> a local prisoner on the loose. why this inmate didn't exactly bust out from behind bars. >>> plus, a lot of people doing a double take at a solemn event for veterans day. we'll give the reason behind the distraction first at 4:00. >>> we're following a developing story involving that wild winter weather hitting the midwest. icy roads are now blamed for

veronica johnson and i have been looking at these numbers. and vj, when we wake up tomorrow, we talked about a s p shock to the system. we have had one or two. this is going to be different. >> yeah, for sure. folks are going to notice this in a hurry. first thing tomorrow morning, this is the kind of cold where you really need to prepare. and, again, dress in layers tomorrow. we'll talk about that in a second. take a look at the ratings. tomorrow morning, 8:00 a.m., wind chill temperature, montgomery couy around burtonsville and bethesda at 14 degrees. areas like oakton, this is by 1:30 tomorrow afternoon. not much better. your reading around 19 to 21 degrees. same around vienna. then as we kick it into the evening hours again, we're back down into the teens. and there may be some locations that drop down to the single digits by tomorrow evening. dale city by 6:00 p.m. feeling like around 20 degrees, as well as early wednesday morning. so what to wear, it's the day to dress in layers. we're talking about layers one, two and three. . big coat

but behind that, veronica johnson and i are looking at yet another cooldown making its way in during the day on friday. and vj, this is just the start of cooler weather moving in. >> that's right. here we go again. i know that folks haven't put their coats away too far. you're going to need them. take a look. here's the pattern that we're under right now. we've got a lot of warm, mild air across the mid atlantic states. so that's from the south side of the jet stream. those upper level winds we really track, meteorologists get a handle on what's going on. warm here throughout the mid atlantic states. today those temperatures in the northern plains where you see the chilly air in the 30s and low 40s. that's going to modify a bit. but it's going to come dropping our way by friday. early part of the weekend, already on friday morning, we could see a couple locations. some neighborhoods starting out in the 30s. then we could see yet another change. doug? >> that's right. the best news is, it's not going to be quite as cold as last weekend but chilly. high temperatures tomorrow, nothing b

veronica johnson and i have been looking at the wind chills for tomorrow, but vj, wind chills could evene colder next week. >> right. it feels like christmas, right? but no presents. so what's bigger than yikes, zoinks? you can put an exclamation mark behind it. temperatures in the 40s. we have been tracking the cold, in the 40s today but even lower readings the early part of next week. so here we go. let me show you the cold air that's moving in. this is a look at saturday doing okay. we'll be in the mid 40s. by the time we get to the second part of the weekend, close to 50 degrees. more cold air dropping south. this is the next wave. and then by the early part of next week, it starts easing to the east. high temperatures on wednesday only in the 30s. so tuesday and wednesday, mighty cold. zoinks kind of air covering a good chunk of the nation. doug? >> i did not know that zoinks is bigger than yikes. you learn something every day. tomorrow, no yikes at all. tomorrow morning, cold, but tomorrow afternoon breezy conditions early but the afternoon the breeze begins to calm. so mostly sunn

let's go to storm team 4 meteorologist veronica johnson. when and where and really? >> yeah, really, i know. hard to believe, after record warmth today. but yes, for wednesday now, that is the day that we are watching very closely winter storm watch already issued by the national weather service. all these counties you see shaded in blue is ones that could see some accumulating snowfall. so that's up around baltimore, carol, frederick, loudoun, fauquier county, rappahannock, madison, albemarle and off to the west. this is where snow could accumulate, and may likely have an impact on area roads. everywhere east of there, right now not shaded in blue, still we're expecting some falling snow. but what falls may not necessarily cumulate. we'll talk more about that coming up. but again, it all has to do with colder air making its way in. there's the weather front. in a storm system developing south and making its way northward, all having an impact on us again on wednesday. so we'll talk about the travel impacts on roads and air coming up later this hour. >> all right. he
