we begin with veronica johnson. outside our front lawn we're going to be seeing snow on top of snow a ice there. you say this stuff is going to stick quickly because of how cold it is. the snow is going to stick to the roads. that's what really folks want to know what we're going to stress. with this event starting at 2:30 3:00 a.m. in the morning. that snow line will be moving on up. by 7:00 a.m. i think that there willa few snow-coves throughout the area. it will come down qui we won't see the high totals as we did on saturday. major rush delays throughout the area. cancellas likely to come in. there we are at 6:00 a.m. snowing on the monuments through d.c. at 8:00 a.m., more snow in terms of temperatures. 22 degrees at 6:00 a.m. by 9:00 a.m. up to 23. once that snow ends and pushes east 11: to noontime. any know that's left on area roads will still be there to make for a slick evening commute in some areas. look at the red. this is the road impact early thursd morning. 70 270, 66, areas right down 95 will in a bi

. >> i'm jim handly with meteorologist veronica johnson here in a very busy storm center. doug are will join us in just a bit. this thing is coming in earlier and fast. >> exactly. earlier looked like it would start between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. but a couple hours early, the moisture running into our area. it will also be fighting some drier air to our north. we'll talk more about that later. here's the first image, storm team 4 radar. you can see those spots north of i-66 and across southern maryland is where there is right now some slightly bigger flakes coming down. again, it's been snowing for about two hours, you folks an fairfax seeing that snow and road getting covered throughout prince william county fairfax county, loudoun county. look at this system it's big extending to the west into kentucky and tennessee so we've got hours of this snow yet to go. the biggest storm of our season so far, the winter storm warnings up they cover the area. we'll have a little more on which arias will receive the highest amounts with the storm. i can tell you everyone will have ju

an update from veronica johnson in the weather center. we're talking act making a little weather history perhaps. >> that's for sure. we're really going to be giving some of the records throughout the area, the record low temperatures a run for their money. why we're saying to layer up make sure we've got every bit of exposed skin covered up late tonight, early tomorrow morning. our windchills this morning started out between 5 and 10 degrees this morning, but i think we'll be there by 11:00 p.m. 18 degrees leesburg manassas warrenton, 15 around college park and camp springs. your evening planner forecast again, i think those windchill very well valencias will be at 5 to 10 below by 11:00 p.m. then even lower by tomorrow morning. your wake-up weather, yes, dry conditions but minus 20. that's the number to focus on for tomorrow morning and just a reason why we have a high-impact forecast for tomorrow because of the dangers cold. we'll talk more about what we can expect this weekend with the snow and ice set to move in. >> thanks veronica.

storm team 4 meteorologist veronica johnson and doug kammerer are tracking what's left. >> we begin witheronica. veronica, what's in store for us tonight? >> tonightitis all about the cold and, yes, the refreeze. so that means, again, a lot of delays across the area for tomorrow morning. meanwhile, this time tomorrow some more snow to the area. finally that extreme cold that's going to hit us. yes, it's going to be colder than this past weekend. take a look outdoor impact forecast for wednesday, starting out 7:00 a.m. 15 degrees. that is it. 15 degrees, folks. a lot of folk what kind of exercise? well of course shoveling. something some folks still cleaning the driveways and sidewalks. upper 20s we'll max out just around the freezing mark for tomorrow. that snow doesn't move in until after 5:00 p.m. but when it does it will come down fairly good at times, burst of snow coming through. that means reduced visibility on area roads. 5 to 9 is the time period we're looking at with a quick coating to an inch. what happens after that, the wind will start to pick up and we'll take you hour by ho

veronica johnson outside just around our parking lot. j.j. because of the cold temperatures and the way the snow is coming down this is sticking very very quickly, making roads very treacherous. >> that it is. it's great to look at very fine powdery type of flakes that are coming down right now that are kind of sparkling. we've got about a half inch out here in our storm team 4 weather deck. the bottom of my boot rubber i've been just going like that and you can slide very easily. a lot of the tires on area roads. let's talk about the amounts and temperatures across the area because we are in the teens throughout the area from 10 degrees around germantown gaithersburg 16 d.c. down toward culpepper in fredericksburg. those are the arias just down to the south we're already seeing some of the higher amounts of snow. two inches in front royal, inch and a half in fredericksburgs, d.c. half inch, with only trace amounts in pred frederick, maryland. one of the reasons why storm team 4 thinking what that's where the delays will be tomorrow morning w

let's get to meteorologist veronica johnson. sounds like things are going to turn nasty overnight, v.j. >> yes, they will. the latest data showing that. the potential for sleet and a little bit of light snow but freezing rain. as we know, doesn take much to make road conditions icy and winter weather advis unt 3:00 a.m. up to the north and west we could see some freezing rain maybe a little bit of sleet at the onset and some light snow at the tail end. even south as this system pulls out of here. so chance for some icy roads during our morning rush. evening the late evening periods, icy roads. south of frederick along areas of 270 right around 66, getting ready to push eastward. not a lot right now and we're not expecting a lot in the way of showers with this system. it is the glaze of ice to worry about for tomorrow morning. at 37 degrees, watch the cold air move in. here's your freezing marx 32 degrees by 11:00 p.m. it takes over areas, d.c. by 3:00 a.m. it's here. i'll take you hour by hour and show you the freezing rain movi

let's go to the storm team 4 weather center now and meteorologist veronica johnson. veronica how much and how is the weekend looking? >> that is the second part of our weekend where we could see some icy pockets. there's new data coming into storm center 4 right now. we're making the changes and will have the maps for you. as for today, temperatures in the 30s, our second coldest day out of the work week freezing in d.c. 34 27 gaithersburg 32 manassas as well as roundmore. if you're going out this evening of course it's just going to get colder as we drop to 24 degrees under a mostly clear sky by 11:00 p.m. look at the radar. this is live. some flurries down to the south around fredericksburg but, again, it is this weekend where we could see a little bit in the way of some light snow as well as some freezing rain. so cold and in the teens overnight. some freezing saturday coming our way, so another cold one. coming up i'll show you exactly where the rain chances are for sunday the freezing rain too, and the impact on area roads. >>> a push to allow certain people unde

let's begin with meteorologist veronica johnson. so how much longer are we going to have to tough it out? >> a while. you're going to have to really hang on here right now. a lot of folks getting tired of it. we're going to take a look at that trend, as i said as to what folks can expect not just the next seven days but the next 14 days. meanwhile, yes, icy conditions out there this evening. just a little bit of help from the sunshine today. not a tremendous amount. hey, we'll take it. the deal is though, if you go out this evening and it looks wet, it's likely to be ice so use caution. by tomorrow morning more icy patches across the area 13 degrees is how we'll start out. just one reason i think why we could get close to that record maybe even set a new record at dulles. the afternoon tomorrow 32 that's it nap's as good as we can do. the temperature freezing so again, a little melting but a little more sunshine so, a bit of a sun glare again for your afternoon. a lot of folks wondering how to wash the car, get a little bit of that
