high vianey. >> hi vicky, merry christmas eve. we're tracking rain but don't let the dark clouds scare you off. it's a weak frontal system that will affect parts of the far northern bay. if you're heading out or driving to a family's house for christmas eve, looking at tri-valley, 52 degrees, peninsula 53 and the south bay mild at 54. so we're kept this cloud cover for the past couple of days in a row and that's what's been keeping that poor air quality. san francisco at 53 and the north bay is getting cloudy. now, that storm system is expected to move in overnight and into early monday morning which is tomorrow, christmas day, but for now we're going to keep that air quality forecast for the north bay, the east bay and the peninsula on the unhealthy side which means, yes, no wood burning allowed through tonight through christmas eve. i know it will be tough, people have beautiful fireplaces but you need to hold off on that. tomorrow the air quality might get better. south bay, moderate conditions right now and those temperatures

vianey arana is here with a check on the forecast. a disaster, but we're seeing a little moisture, you say it's called virga. >> yeah, it means that it hasn't touched the ground. the radar shows no rain in sight but that doesn't mean we're not getting any rain. golden gate bridge, the radar is showing a good chance. if you haven't made any plans to head out on a drive tonight, you'll be okay in terms of temperatures. we're not off to very much of a cold night just yet. tri valley at 50 degrees, nice and cool. 51 for the peninsula and south bay, nice and mild 53 degrees. in san francisco, a couple of those clouds rolling in. we saw them roll in in the early morning hours. let's take a live look at the doppler. you can see the activity. this is that frontal system we've been tracking since wednesday and into thursday. that was going to bring the chance of seeing rain. this is what i was talking about. it's raining right now, but a lot of this is virga which means no measurable rain, not even touching the ground. that system ends up bein

vianey is focusing on that morning commute right now. >>> getting a lot heavier out there.but i want to turn your attention towards the east bay. we are dealing with major slowing along southbound 880 beginning from seventh street before market street. if you notice it just kind of keeps on going so if you have plans to head on the 880 southbound i would say take surface streets and you can hop back on after 12th street, after that everything looks to be pretty clear. there may have been road work earlier on today and that's what's causing some delays in the east bay, but as usual we are expecting to see delays in the east bay, another one we are still seeing that we've been following all morning long was that crash along southbound 680 at scott creek road. that accident has been cleefd off to the right hand shoulder but it looks like people are slowing down to see what's going on and that's causing delays now on the northbound side as well. let's take a quick like outside at that oakland 880 where you can see a little stop and go traffic but it looks like it's flowing pret

there is a couple of them, actually, that vianey has been in for mike today. >> a messy commute this morning. >> we want to talk about that. >> let's get right to it. that sig alert cleared out in palo alto so all is clear in palo alto, but right now you're getting a live look using our sky ranger, we have eyes on that southbound 880 crash at 66th avenue in oakland. it remains a hard closure at this hour which means all lanes are completely blocked off. look at that backup right now. we are seeing backup all the way past high street, even to fruitvale avenue. now you can see they are diverting the majority of that traffic off on 66, but this is a surface street right before that so you need to just avoid southbound 880 entirely. if your commute is from the east bay don't even bother jumping on, try to take surface if you can all the way to your morning commute. start calling your boss because they had estimated this to reopen at around 7:00 a.m. according to chp but judging by these delays even if they do reopen some of those lanes you can still expect to see some of that backup and

vianey has been tracking a few slow spots especially in the tri-valley, right?> yeah, the tri-valley still looking fairly slow. we had one accident on high stre street, that's been cleared off. we are still seeing the accident along altamonte pass. it is off to the right hand shoulder. this is the one i'm really concerned about in the south bay, it just popped up and it's already showing some slowing, two crashes along southbound 680, one along scott creek road. there is a lane blocked in that area, you can see it's already causing some delays. it appears to be an accident involving multiple vehicles. chp hasn't reported any injuries but we will be looking into that. we also had one just up ahead at jacquelyn and we are also seeing some slowing near that area. so all in all if you can try to get off before scott street boulevard because you can see that's already starting to cause major delays out of that area. >>> 5:31 right now. developing this morning, finally over, a 15-hour stand offin the south bay comes to an end after nearly two hours with an explosive b

as we head back over to vianey, an update on the sig alerts. >> unfortunately we're starting off ourhursday morning with a deadly crash so i'm going to get just right to it. we're still seeing that sig alert very much in place, it is still a hard closure which means all lanes are completely blocked off, they are not letting anybody on or off starting at southbound 880 at 66th avenue all lanes are completely blocked off. you can see the delay is already here. if you are headed in this direction, if you are planning to drive down from the east bay hop off on southbound 880 before fruitvale area. so definitely make sure to hop off before fruitvale avenue so you don't get caught up in this mess. they haven't given us an estimated time of when that is expected to open, but it is a deadly crash so you can imagine we're expecting this to be a pretty hard closure for quite some time. we're also following another sig alert. we've actually got two reporters both on the way to each scene to give us updates from the ground. we have a crash northbound 101 at embarcadero, right now only one lane i

thank you, vianey. >>> happening now, a health warning at a south bay elementary school. parents are being told to be aware of a stomach virus going around in los gatos. the principal wrote, we had a number of fifth graders out with a stomach bug causing vomiting, diarrhea and/or fever. because this was a hire than typical number of students sick, we are working with the county health department and implementing their suggested procedures to help stop the spread. now we researched other similar outbreaks and we learned that the health department will suggest more and frequent cleaning of door handles, desks, keyboards as well. the health department will remind all of us that hand washing is key. now, we don't know if it's neural virus, but the symptoms the principal described are very similar. the symptoms through the center for disease control described vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramps, pain, low fever, headaches, muscle aches as well. if your child experiences a combination of the symptoms keep them at home, they say, for 48 hours at least. after those symptoms clea

vianey arana is back with a look to the our microclimate forecast.issed you last weekend. >> i missed you guys too. and you know what? it has been really cold all week long. >> it has. >> and it's not going to change. so right now we're in the 30s and the 40s, east bay at 30 degrees. it's nice and chilly. san francisco at about 48. 32 degrees for the north bay. and if you look at that temperature trend, eventually it will start climbing into the 50s for san francisco, but it is going to be another kind of dry, mild day, although, you know, our temperatures are actually expected to be slightly warmer than what we've seen the past few days for the afternoon so that will be a good thing. it will be a beautiful afternoon, a little bit warmer than what we've seen the past two days, very similar to yesterday, but maybe like three or four degrees warm ner in som spots and eventually we'll start climbing into the 60s. and then we do have a couple of changes. i will have an update on the southern california weather conditions for the wildfires that are going

i'm kira klapper, meteorologist rob mayeda in for vianey arana has a look at our microclimate forecast. >> and it is chilly as you mentioned. north bay, 30s this morning, even though the clouds are coming in, technically not quite as cold as yesterday morning. 50 right now in san francisco. into san jose, it's 45 degrees, the cooler temperatures, though, we're finding right now, upper 30s to low 40s and during the afternoon today, as clouds thicken up later on, it's going to be a mostly cloudy day, san francisco into the north bay, low 60s around san jose, then as we go through the afternoon, those increasing clouds after 7:00 tonight, i think, especially for the north bay will lead to a chance of a few showers. last weekend, we had a storm that dropped one to two inches of rain in the north bay. that's not going to be the case this weekend. a lot of clouds, but this system is weakening on approach but it is bringing in some cold air, which is good news if you want to see a boost to the sierra snow pack later tonight. full look at the details on how much we're expecting coming up in ab
