vianey arana joins us this morning with your microclimate forecast. yesterday turned out to be quite a beautiful day. what can we expect for today? >> a little bit of a repeat of that but just with more breeze around the coastline and also a new high surf advisory. san jose right now, 40 degrees waking up as you saw. beautiful skies this morning. we will be dry once again. we had a little bit of drizzle to the north, current temperatures, napa, 39 degrees. livermore, 37 degrees. morgan hill, 38 degrees. it's definitely still cold right now. by the afternoon we'll warm up once again into the upper 50s, low 60s, here's the high surf warnings. we have strong winds and large waves in effect until 9:00 p.m. tonight because of those strong winds and the swell. that will make for dangerous wave heights, 16 to 20 feet breakers. that could bring dangerous conditions for the coastline. i'll go over that and what to expect in the week ahead. >> thank you very much. >>> at least seven staff members of the trump administration have resigned following the riot at t

let's bring in vianey arana who's been giving us updates throughout the newscast. >> when you look at today's storm and compare to what i will show you in the future cast, you are thinking oh this is beginning of an active weather week. great shot of san francisco, you can see the rain and clouds there. light to moderate right now. here is a shot at heavenly lake tahoe. they're expecting to get more snow out of the impact of the next storm system. light rain pushing through san francisco, the pacifica area, fremont as well, you can see down to san jose. up to the north, a couple of spots and mainly though right now in the vallejo area and oakland got some passes through there. here is a look at the current wind speed. it is not windy right now. just a little breezy. that will change heading into the evening. the reason for that is as the cold front passes, we are expecting the gusts to pick up. gusts upward of 45 miles per hour, wind advisory will go into effect starting at 7:00 and will stay in effect until 10:00 a.m. on monday. something to keep in mind, it is going to feel a lot co

vianey arana is joining us now. >>> here is a live look over san jose. 50 degrees right now.bigger storm ahead. before i get to that, i want to show you a look at our storm ranger. our mobile radar is scanning that rain and it is moving from north to south. you can see san francisco a couple of pockets through there. at the north bay a little bit of a break in the petaluma area. check out the south bay though, definitely getting some heavier pockets for santa cruz and san jose light to moderate and same with gilroy area and morgan hill. we do have these showers pushing through the over night hours. it is going to remain light to moderate. our next area for concerns is going to be the wind as this cool front passes through, we are expecting gusty conditions especially for the coastal areas and of course the san francisco area. that wind advisory is expected to take in effect at 7:00 p.m., strongest gusts of 45 to 50. 60 plus miles per hour, the national weather service advising. please keep in mind as we head into the over night hours. look at san francisco into the over night

for more on that, let's head over to vianey arana. >> there is a blizzard warning in effect for the sierra because of the dangerous whiteout conditions. several spinouts near the area. i want to show you a look at how much snow we are tracking. this is possibly one of the strongest winter storms they have seen in the sierra. take a look at the snow totals. this is pushing this all the way through today and into friday. several feet of snow, especially for the higher elevation areas. now, i want you to keep something in mind. definitely a welcome sight. the reason for that, take a look at the sierra snowpack. about 41% of average. the sierra snowpack makes up 30% of california's water supply. so this is good news but it's very dangerous so please be careful. kari, i'll send it back to you. >> it's hard to imagine that much snow happening all at once, but we are going to see some additional rainfall totals on top of the 1 to 2 inches that we've already had. another inch or two as we go into the next several days. so in our seven-day forecast, a lot more rain headed our way. we will take a br

for more on that, let's head on over to vianey arana. >> they have seen a ton and we are expecting more up in the sierra. i wanted to get started with a live look at crystal springs in the sierra because we were seeing some snow falling through there. this makes for dangerous conditions but a beautiful sight. you can see the snow coming down along i-80 at crystal springs. with that blizzard warning in effect through friday, definitely something to keep in mind because that dangerous road travel is expected to continue. i want to give you an idea of how much more additional snow. so that's on top of what we've already seen up through the sierra. this is pushing that tim all the way through friday.can sight to see because this makes up for about a third of california's water supply. so the sierra snowpack is very important to us. statewide we're at about 41%. i feel a feeling that number is definitely going to go up after the end of this week. kari, i'll send it back to you. >> we so need it, thank you. and we're also going to see more scattered showers in the forecast for us, so still an
