so let's bring in vianey arana. you're talking about air pollution.it going to affect our wildfire season this summer? how bad will it be? >> that is something we're turning attention to as temps warm up. how is the fire season going to be shaping up in the state of california? just to give you an idea, this is the climate central analysis. they released this that shows the trend is showing an average increase in annual hot, dry, windy days which the focus on the analysis, of course, the three biggest factors in fires. noaa just released that earth saw its third-warmest may in 174 years. we've been seeing the cooler temperatures here, specifically in our little corner of california, but leading into the upcoming months we wanted to know how our very wet winter record played into our sierra snowpack? how that's going to shape out. let's take a look. this analysis included data from 476 weather stations to assess trends in 245 climate divisions across the u.s. during a 50-year period starting in 1973. their results show that wildfire seasons are getting

meteorologist vianey arana of course here right now. we've been talking about the windy conditions, and that is a frightening thing when we have any fire in our area. >> absolutely. just because, you know, one ember can spread to another spot. you heard them talking about the grasses. that's kind of our bigger concern is the small brush and the grasses because they are a lot quicker to dry. the moisture concentration matters on the ground. even though we had a record went they are past year, that's going to help ease some of the fire outlook, still got to be mindful because once the temperatures heat back up, stuff gets dry. let's look at the three things we need to look out for when it comes to, you know, warnings or anything like that with fires. right now, the temperatures are good. we're in the 50s, so we don't have known heat that's else inially going to play into this. nchtd, we're running a few degrees cooler because we had a cold front sweep through last night. so that system is actually responsible for also kicking up the winds

meteorologist vianey arana will tell us what to expect as we all start our weekend. >>> let's go ahead and begin here with the new developments on the south bay crime spree. police in san jose and milpitas believe one man is responsible for four stabbings and four hit and runs throughout both cities. three are dead. this is the man police took into custody last night. 31-year-old kevin parkourana of san jose. police say he is known to them and has had many felonies, misdemeanors already on his record. his crime spree ultimately spanning about 20 miles across both cities. started with a stab and carjacking just after 3:00 yesterday afternoon in san jose. ultimately didn't end until he was taken into custody three hours later after a deadly stabbing in milpitas. >> during the course of our investigation, we were made aware of a homicide that occurred in the city of milpitas. the milpitas police department confirmed that they had located the carjacked vehicle that was taken in san jose and used by the suspect during his crime spree. we believe that the suspect we have in custody is the so

let's turn things over to meteorologist vianey arana, and we are still cool, but you say that's going to change because it was really chilly this weekend. >> we're going to stay this seasonable pattern, at least through tomorrow before the gradual warming begins heading into wednesday. if you notice, in san jose, we have those clear conditions, but we did wake up with that deep marine layer, and we can expect that again tonight into early tomorrow morning. temperature wise right now, we are in themy 70s for a lot of the bay area, including concord, livermore, 70 degrees. san jose is at 67 and then cooler around half moon bay at about 57. we saw those on shore winds as well, and we have that deep trough. that's going to continue, at least through tonight. keeping it breezy as well through your tuesday. notice around san francisco, 18 to 20 miles per hour winds, and also even down through parts of livermore, notice that 23 miles per hour wind through tonight at around 7:00. so as we inch closer towards tonight, and early tomorrow morning if you're going to be heading to work early on, e

let us go to our meteorologist vianey arana. are we going to have rain on the way ? >> i feel like the temperatures were in the 80s and it was sunny. it was finally warm. now, we are getting back into the cloudy and rain chances already firing up on the radar. here is what to expect next week. cooler temperatures probably already fling them in the 60s and 70s. with this system, we could see a chance for isolated storms and even a chance for hail as we head into the evening hours. you can see, we've got some systems already firing up, just to our east and also just to the south and central california near monterey. the tahoe area has seen several lightning strikes. this system will move east to west. we are expecting to see a chance for bow showers as well as the instability, especially picking up late tonight into your commute early tuesday morning. the impact of this will be felt for your tuesday morning commute. please be mindful of that. i know we have not had rain for early morning commute in time. the impacts could be built on the roads. the rain chances will li

vianey arana joins us now, we're going to be cool and it's going to heat up again. >> the way we're starting ending, we'll see an increase of almost 20 degrees in some parts, especially for inland areas. now, if you are in through the interior, and not really along the coastline, this is what you're getting right now. you're getting clear skies, but by early tomorrow morning, expect to see the marine layer continue to be pretty deep. you can even see right now, much like you saw in the live camera there in san francisco, also parts of half moon bay and parts of the north bay, but temperature-wise, we're sitting comfortable in the 60s and 70s. around this time of year, we're considered below normal. on shore winds as well. breezy and gusty at times, and especially around the coastline. we're going keep winds tonight and tomorrow, especially around the coast. look at san francisco, 19 plus, but also notice livermore, 23 plus miles per hour, stretching through san jose, 10 to 15 miles per hour winds. extending through tuesday afternoon as well. that also helps keep some of those temperatures a

let's bring in meteorologist vianey arana with that answer. >> it's going to be pleasant. marine layer and a chance for isolated showers heading into sunday but it depends where you are headed and where you're going to be. i'll give you a mini tour of the weekend across the bay area. even a little bit further south. right now, temperatures are in the 60s and 70s. let's get to that microclimate forecast. if you notice, first we're going to start out in santa cruz. notice sunday temperatures in the 60s. the marine layer, it's definitely going to have a big influence around the coastline. you're going to notice the increase in cloud cover. heading to napa, expect to see 70s on the map. so far right now, that sunday chance does appear to be a little bit more focused on the central coast. lake tahoe about 59. but this will impact your tahoe trip. saturday and sunday, we're still monitoring the chance for some thunderstorm activity as well as yosemite. temperatures will be in the 50s. check those travel conditions even if you're going to be heading to big sur. expect a chance of

let's bring in meteorologist vianey arana with a closer look. what can we expect? >> noaa has issued an el nino advisory. what this means is they have detected that temperatures in the pacific are warmer than average already. it's signaling the el nino has arrived. so let's get into details of what this will mean for us here in northern california. it has big impacts. not just for us but really northern, pacific, all of that. you can see the ocean surface temperatures, taking a closer look, el nino has arrived. it's forecasted for moderate strength by fall. so as of right now, it has arrived early. and what that could mean for us is that it still has more time to develop heading into the fall. i do want to give you a closer look. since 1950, we have had over 20 el nino events. i mentioned this one arrived a little bit earlier. this year, there is an 84% chance greater than moderate strength, a 56% chance of a strong el nino. especially coming up into the fall and winter. no two el ninos are the same. they're variable. that could change from time to time. but based

meteorologist vianey arana has been telling us what to expect as we continue the countdown. >>> you knownot only at the weather for today. it is going to be beautiful, temperatures in the 70s. our very own rob mayeda yesterday did some digging into how our air quality has been faring. we know the wildfires in canada impacted a lot of the east coast and even parts of the midwest with the u.s. when it comes to the poor air quality. if you take a look at this, this is according to the bay area air quality management district, this year we have seen only one spare-the-air day so far. now, comparing this back to 2005, that's the last time we only saw one, and then in, you know, 1997 we had three. in 2004 we had four. and then if you look, 1992 we had seven. now, this is a really great improvement. of course, the record rain certainly helps with this, and today we are expecting to see great air quality from the northbound through the peninsula, the bay and down through the south bay. let's get a check of the roads with mike. >>> you know, vianey, i have no update. i know chp is busy controllin
