let's bring in our meteorologist vianey arana for a look at the numbers. okay. vianey how are we doing today? i have a bad feeling. and how does it look compared to this time last year? yeah. you know, based on what you said, it is definitely been a mostly dry winter. but we do have some percentages right now. and i'd like to show you where we stand as far as our sierra snowpack. now, this breaks it up from north, central and south. remember the sierra range stretches about 400 miles north right now is at about 95% notice south is at about 46. now, this is not unusual when we settle into a la nina pattern. however, there's a lot of variability that goes into that. you know, keep in mind 2022 to 2023 year, we had a record snowpack and we were also in a la nina pattern. so right now we're at a statewide average of about 67%. and that april 1st average is at about 41%. now, the reason why we look at that april 1st average is this is when we typically see the sierra snowpack peaking. so that number is important as well. you asked about how we look compared to last ye

let's bring in our meteorologist, vianey arana vianey. how are the percentages looking? well, you know, we get these updates every thursday. and i do have a look right now at where we stand. you mentioned that increase in southern california with the drought conditions. and if you look right here, we've got the boost in the colors from abnormally dry to that severe orange color. so far we've seen an increase of severe drought by about 15% in just the last two weeks, which is when we see the updates. we've also got a sliver right here in the red zone, which puts it in that extreme category. now notice northern california is still mostly abnormally dry and drought free. how does this compare to last january? yeah, i think that's where a lot of us are kind of playing in the component of we haven't really gotten much rain. so let's take a look at what the drought monitor looked like just last year. notice january of 2024. we had no dught on california's map. 97% was completely drought free. and the reason for that was we had a really great 2023 to 2024 water year. we had a g

let's bring in again our meteorologist, vianey arana. vianey a passing grade.hat means california could do better. indeed. and you know, the focus of this group is to advance climate policies, things like clean energy and conservation. now, in 2024, california scored a b for climate action at 84%. now that grade was handed down by an organization called california environmental voters. let's start with some of the wins for california. one of them being proposition four, which was passed and it secured $10 billion for climate resilience. another one was a number of climate bills were passed, including ones that cap oil wells and keep them accountable. another was in action and it was to take hold and hold corporations accountable, like the suing of exxonmobil over plastic recycling, deception and the advancement of rules that promote clean energy. so the ones that you see on the screen were wins for california. now let's take a look at what was considered to be either a step back or halted progress. now, despite securing funding on one front, there was also a $5

let's bring in our meteorologist, vianey arana. now, vianey, you have been staying on top of this, and it looks like the winds have definitely calmed down for them. certainly good news here. when it comes to containment, if you look at the dials the center number represents the wind speeds. but we've also matched the temperatures right up there. and if you notice this percentage here also revealing that humidity, which is a big component as well when we're talking about elevated fire conditions. now we've seen a nice recovery with that humidity, especially around the coastline. notice there near topanga beach, now at about 72% areas closer to the water, including santa monica at about 60%. still a couple areas a bit drier. this is pretty normal into the interior. notice right there stone canyon reservoir at about 28%. but the significant decrease in the winds is going to be very great for that containment. notice i took this forward through the next couple of hours. and this is what it looks like right now. so let's take a look at w

i am back now with meteorologist vianey arana to take a look at the weather today. it's actually pretty nice out there. yeah, we've been starting out frosty with frosty conditions on those wind chills, but by the afternoon we've actually been above average. so let's take a look right now at your microclimate forecast local condnditions. right now notice it's about 64 degrees in san francisco. but the average high for a day like today would be around 58. so definitely feeling more of that warmth as we head forecasted 63 degrees right now in walnut creek. we've got those clear skies. and just to give you an idea of the warmth that we're feeling, look at this. this is right now we're nearing the 70 degree mark in san jose at about 69 degrees right now, also up through parts of the north bay and through the interior. and here's a quick check of the 24 hour temperature change. so definitely felt a bit more of that warmth as that high pressure kind of sets over the california area. it's going to keep the conditions clear. but as we head into tonight with those light winds

i am here now with meteorologist vianey arana. take a look at our weather. it is nice again today, but i know you've been keeping track of some possible rain headed our way. indeed. and we're inching closer towards that change. so these clear skies. the first thing you'll notice tonight is we're going to see the return of some coastal fog and some low clouds in the forecast. so let's get right to the timing and also the temperatures. because even though we've been mild in the afternoons, as you know it's been very cold in the mornings, especially right now it's about 61 degrees in walnut creek. notice at around the 9:10 p.m. hour we start to see an increase in some clouds. we will dip down into those 40s by about 11:00. and if you look at san francisco right now, we're mostly clear. it's about 56 degrees wind speeds from the west at about 16mph. but if you notice, right around ten, 11:00, we do start to see some of those low clouds make their return. and this will include as well not just the coastline, but in through parts of the interior. look at san jose

let's bring in our meteorologist, vianey arana and vianey. we're not seeing those hurricane force winds that we saw like tuesday night. winds have died down a little bit, but they could just pick right back up this red flag warning extended now. that's right. and it wouldn't surprise me if it got extended through the weekend. the reason being is because the humidity is just so low. and by looking at the model runs, it looks like we have a potential for another wind event. so those wind gusts are expected to ramp back up overnight into tomorrow. i'm going to take you through a map of that, but i want to give you some perspective here. as far as some of the fires that are actively burning in la, we just added that kenneth fire near calabasas. wind gusts there right now, still at about 20 to 30, and it could get even gustier into the overnight hours. you know, one of the big fires, one of the biggest that we've been following, of course, is that palisades fire almost at 20,000 acres. and current conditions show temperature wise. we've been in th

meteorologist vianey arana is tracking the conditions in southern california. what's the situation right now? they still are seeing those wind gusts upwards of 50 plus. so we're nowhere near the clear. and also how dry it is right now. this red flag warning where you see the areas highlighted in red for southern california, will remain near red flag warning until 2 p.m, but there's fire weather watches that were extended into parts of the evening. so again, the reason for that is for this look at this 10%. with that humidity falling into that 95%. now keep in mind when you think about humidity, we like to see this percentage above 30%. ideally we tend to see a recovery overnight of that humidity, but we haven't seen much of that as the wind speeds pick up. and with that high pressure that dries things out completely. and look at this. we start to see the dry to extreme fire danger category. and if we look at the wind speeds, we're still seeing 5060 plus mile per hour winds. look at santa clarita. i took this through about 6 a.m. notice into parts of moorpark th
