vic? >> well dan this is certainly a legal bombshell.case has dragged on for more than a decade and actually barry bonds was at the game last night sitting next to ceo larry baer and he was in spring training as well helping players with their batting. bonds was linked to a drug lab called balco, and he was in 2003 if his trainer ever gave him -- and he answered in a vague, meandering way and the trial opened in 2011 and the jury deadlocked on all counts except the one charging him with lying to the grand jury. he was sentenced to 30 days of home confinement probation and all the while he appealed his conviction in the ninth circuit court of appeals said essentially that barry bonds' meandering, vague answer to the grand jury did not affect the investigation into the balco sports lab and they overturned this conviction. here's how fans reacted. >> he used drug. that's totally wrong. he's a professional. you have to keep it professional. >> he should be in the hall of fame. i don't have much of of a legal background, but initially i thoug

vic lee reports from san francisco hall of justice. t.the.ter: june 2009. 64-year-old peter mcfar land tasted repeatedly by a marin county sheriff's deputy after he refused to be escorted to a hospital. he sued the county charging excessive force. he ultimately settled the case for almost two million dollars. his attorney says the video said it all. >> camera is crucial evidence in every case. and yes, it was crucial evidence in that case. because the camera doesn't lie. >>reporter: many police agency like the camera because they can protect officers are false charges. oakland police say they were one of the first and largest police departments in the country to use body camera. the so far some 4 60 camera have been issued to officers working on the streets. san jose police on the other hand have yet to equip its officers with body cam even after several pilot programs over the years. they hope to start later this year. but san francisco experience is perhaps indicative of what many police departments are going through. no officer wears a bod

vic lee has the story. >> just hear more and more break-ins and i guess they call smash and grabs. >> reporter: the robbery happened early this morning at about 4:30. some of the businesses 40 security cameras captured it all from four to six thieves wearing black were involved in the brazen theft. co-owner james believes they even hired street people to help them. >> they used people on the streets as lookouts while they did their work. they came up in their vehicle after someone let them know it was fine to come over. >> reporter: the robbers gather outside the store. one of them uses a slingshot to smash the front glass door, then they all storm into the building and begin. the building is rented to some 60 dealers who sell porcelain, jewelry and a wide range of vintage collectibles. inside, the thieves are quick. they begin taking items off the shelves, displays and counter tops. hickel who doesn't want his last name used was hard hit. >> that whole shelf was removed that had jewelry, let's see, rings and mostly sterling and gold. >> there the are half a dozen high profile robberi

the vic lee has more. >> megan was arrested march 17 last year on the night of st. patrick's day. after heavy night of drinking she ended up at the like merit bart station platform. sheehan was arrested by police after she became drunk and belligerent. she says she's embarrassed and has no equal about that arrest. it's what happened hours later that left the 28-year-old bartender model in the hospital looking like this. if shehan was being booked at santa rita jail. you see her at the counter in upper right-hand corner of the security video bart officer standing with her. then suddenly some kind of altercation starts and she is thrown to the ground. the jail security camera show it happened quickly. here's another angle. better one. oakland cop grabs her right hand while the bart officer takes her left hand and they throw her down face first. sheehan was lying unconscious in a pool of blood nurse were his called. she was treated and taken to medical center in castro valley. >> i don't believe that they should have broken 4 bones in any face and knocked out some of my teeth. >>repo

vic? >> reporter: the body cams are part of the mayor's public safety package which he hopes the supervisors will approve during the budget process. there are other components to this package but clearly body cams are the priority. as the chief says they are a win/win situation which protects good people on both sides of the lens. a marin resident wins millions in a lawsuit after he was tasered repeatedly by a sheriff's deputy. his camera captured everything. an officer's body cam records the moment police officers take down a drunken women. she's suing for excessive force. her attorneys argument -- >> the camera doesn't lie. >> reporter: the mayor believes that as well. he plans to give lots of money for police body cameras. $6.6 million in our next two-year budget to fund approximately 1,800 body cameras for each of our officers that are on our streets. the police chief says the city will benefit from body cameras. >> complaints go down more than 87% and that complaints go down almost 60
