abc 7 news reporter vic lee is live at the hall of justice to tell us what happened today. >> reporter: i think everyone covering this case expected the prelim hearing to end today, this after the prosecution wrapped up its case yesterday with its last witness, but for whatever reason prosecutor diana garcia suddenly asked the judge to continue the hearing saying she needed more time to make her case. and that came after the defense called its only witness, an important one. today public defender matt gonzalez called his only witness, former head of the san francisco police crime lab. gonzalez believes the gun francisco lopez sanchez is accused of firing accidently discharged in his hand. norris's testimony supported gonzalez's position. he said the weapon, a .40 caliber has no safety switch and the weapon has a trigger that requires little force to pull thus supporting the defense position that it could have accidently gone off. a police investigator has also testified that the bullet hit the ground and ricochetted, fatally striking her in the back. but the prosecution believes sanche
