but first we want to get to meteorologist vicki graf. >> we do have winter storm advisories in place. winter storm watch in charlotte as you head toward the mountains, the foothills, we do have winter storm warnings. this goes into effect until monday evening. we have two things. cold air and moisture. we're in the mid 20s. barely warming up since this morning and we will only make it to the mid 30s going through the afternoon. however right now the air is so dry. we are picking up on a little precip but this is a lot. this is not falling down to the surface because the air has been so dry. that lack of moisture is going to make it a little bit more difficult for some of that snow and ice to add up as we head through the over night hours. this is all part of the large this way. as we go through the evening hours, we will see some snow later tonight in the mountains, clouds will hang over head in the charlotte area, but as we head through the over night hours, the latest guide is as much ice either but the timing places it with us early tomorrow morning as you head out to go get ready

vicki graf is tracking even colder temperatures heading our way tonight. >> testifies a cold start to the day. we started the morning off 28 degrees. temperatures just updated to the weather center. 37 in the queen city. 36 in concord. 31 in salisbury and teens in the mountains. however, it is still windy. i have seen wind gusts in high country up to 50-60 miles per hour so far today. so that is making way for some dangerous windchill values in the mountains. as we go through the afternoon, it's going to stay cool in charlotte. windy as well. when you factor in that windchill, it will feel like we're in the teens at times as we head through the ash and evening and it will feel like below 10 degrees in the high country at times. changes on the way though. the cold air will stick around through the rest of the weekend and that is going to set the stage for some wintery weather early monday. i'll have the timeline of when it arrives coming up. >>> we are in contact with nc d.o.t. crews today trying to find out their plans for treating the roads for monday's winter weather. treating roads

. >> meteorologist vicki graf explains why the dividing line falls. >> pure, white snow. that's the hope for most kids' snow day. but unfortunately, here in charlotte, this is what we often end up with, snow, slush, freezing rain. that's what i'm forecasting for monday. north of i-85, we're predicting snow. south of 85, expect to start the day monday with but as it warms up, that changes over to but i don't want it to snow. >> reporter: it's often that i- 85 line that divides who gets more snow and more rain. >> reporter: this is why. you know it snows in the mountains, where it's cold. as that cold air rolls down, it starts starts to warm through the foothills, but it's still cold enough for snow. but by that time it gets to charlotte, it can warm enough to switch over to rain. >> reporter: a little distance makes a big difference. it's important to note, since this is still five days out, that dividing line of cold versus warm air, it will move. which will make the difference of whether you get snow or freezing rain in your neighborhood. >> reporter: in this area, it al
