i want to bring in victor blackwell, live in dallas. i know you were listening along with that news conference. then came this word about this arsenal of weaponry that was found on the body of the murderer. can you go over what exactly they discover, victor? >> yeah. let's talk first about what was discovered with this shooter's body and what was found at his home. we have this list here. according to a law enforcement source familiar with the investigation, a glock 19, generation 4 pistol. frazier .25 caliber handgun. a variation of the ad style semiautomatic assault style rifle also found with his body. we are told he was wearing a bullet proof vest as well. let's talk, ashleigh, about what was found at the home. evidence of acquisitions, including a gun box packaging, receipts, paperwork for a cobra, glock handguns as well. those weapons were not found at the home but evidence and packaging receipts for those weapons. this source saying the weapons there at the home would not represent a stockpile of those weapons specifically but wh

so let's talk now to victor blackwell, cnn anchor live in dallas. and before we get to the parents' interview, victor, what else did the police chief reveal? what are you learning about what he used and what he did in this ambush? >> reporter: we're learning details from the police chief, but also from a law enforcement source with information about the investigation, and we're learning about the weapons that the shooter had with him there at the el centro building after this standoff ended. let's start with the long gun. a 545 caliber, a semiautomatic assault style rifle. it's a variation of the ak that we talked about so many times over the past several years. also, a glock pistol and a frazier handgun. we're told this shooter also was wearing a body armor, bulletproof vest rather when he was found there in that building. now, the investigation, of course, went to his home in mesquite, a suburb of dallas, searching for evidence. we're told that during that search, they found evidence of other purchases, receipts and paperwork for a cobra, a lureso

i'm victor blackwell here in front of dallas police headquarters.now, before he shot five dallas police officers, 25-year-old micah johnson was very active online. as our drew griffin reports, we may be able to learn more about his motivations by looking at the groups he followed on social media. >> his facebook page was covered with black nationalist symbolism, the black liberation flag, his photo, fist raised in a black power salute. cnn has been speaking with a former friend of johnson who says he was disturbed not just by recent police killings of black men but on the history of violence against his race. johnson repeatedly viewed the videotaped beating of rodney king. and he knew everything about the history of martin luther king's assassination and the murder of malcolm x. it's clear micah johnson was visiting, liking and absorbing messages that could have inspired him not just to hate, but to strike. the friend, who wants to remain anonymous, says johnson was a good black man with a little bit of an anger problem. that combination of history,

victor blackwell joins us from dallas with the latest. >> reporter: some of the strongest concerns abouthe evidence being pulled out of that shooter's home surrounding those materials. cnn has now learned from multiple law enforcement sources that those materials are essentially three and a half pounds of powders, three strait powders found in his home, all perfectly legal, potential bomb making materials though, but also elements that could be used by gun enthusiests. we know something was assembles, no bomb ready to detonate. it appeared this shooter was someone who liked to explode things by shooting them, so perhaps he had an interest in i.e.d.s but this was not someone who had any really bomb making expeer's th experti expertise. we also heard from the chief a few words for the protesters across the country. as you said we've seen them for five nights. here's what chief david brown said to those protesters who have questions and concerns about police practices. >> we're hiring. we're hiring. get out that protest line and put an application in. and we'll put you in your neighborhood
